Dotty was still brushing through her hair fairly short hair when there was a knock at the door. She still couldn’t believe Cal made it in an hour. He really must have wanted to hang out with her. It had been a couple of months since they had laid eyes on each. Yeah, they had their texting moments but apart from that, Cal didn’t really talk to her. That was a complicated side to Cal. He seemed to never reach out; it was always the other way around. Dotty opened the door and gasped. In high school, Cal kept his hair long and almost never shaved which caused him to possess the ‘mysterious sexy’ look. The look always made him appear older. Dotty stood with the door open, gaping at Cal which caused his face to turn red.

“W-what, Dotty? You look like you just saw a ghost!”

“Oh…nothing…it’s just…you look different, Cal.”

Dotty motioned for him to come in. She shook her head in disbelief. Cal had cut off all his hair and it was spiked up front and his beard no longer lay on his face. Gosh, Dotty thought, he was a site for sore eyes. His scrawny body was leaning against the entrance wall. No matter how much he ate Cal never gained weight and his tallness made him seem skinnier.

“Let me grab a jacket. Feel free to…look around.” Dotty said heading toward the bedroom. She grabbed the nearest jacket and headed to the bathroom to make sure she looked okay. As Dotty was applying blush she stopped and stared at herself. Why, she thought, do I care what I look like when I’m going out with Cal? Thinking this made her feel self-conscience. Did it look like she was trying too much? She quickly wiped off the blush and headed out. Dotty found Cal in the living room looking at the pictures on the wall.

“You ready?”

“Yeah, you ready to shake some ass?!”

This caused Dotty to laugh. Everyone that knew her also knew that she loved to dance…even if she couldn’t. Cal walked towards her and Dotty noticed the picture he was staring at. Before Cal noticed her staring she quickly looked away not wanting to make it awkward. Well, Dotty thought, what could be more awkward than your sort-of-still-best-friend-who-you-may-have-undying-feelings-for taking you to a concert. What could go wrong?

Dotty made her way to the bathroom in dire need of a toilet. She ran in not caring if anyone was waiting in line and slammed into the nearest stall available. She ripped down her pants and took the most magical piss ever.

“Oh my gosh!” Dotty quickly shut her mouth and began to giggle. She promised herself she wouldn’t drink at the concert tonight but beer made its way into her hand anyhow. She stepped out and washed her hands and took a look in the mirror. Dotty was flushed from all the dancing and her eyes were a bit glassy. She wouldn’t say she was drunk but damn was she tipsy. She made her way out and found Cal talking to a pretty red head. Dotty instantly felt herself becoming more flushed. Cal saw her and moved away which caused the red head to glare at Dotty.

“Hey, there, light weight.” Cal joked.

“Am not!” Dotty felt herself cooling down. Why would seeing him talk to another woman make her jealous, she pondered. “I see you were making yourself comfortable?” She quickly put her hand to her mouth instantly wanting to slap herself for saying that. She didn’t know how to keep her mouth shut when she drank. Changing the subject quickly she asked, “What time is it?”

“Almost eleven.” They had been there about four hours and Dotty was exhausted.

“Aw, don’t tell me you’re finished for the night?” he asked handing her another beer. It was like she could never say no to Cal.

“Cheers!” Dotty exclaimed, chugging her fourth beer. This was not going to end well.
