The sky was a beautiful baby blue color today. There wasn't a single cloud in sight.
The grass was bright green, and all around there were lavender flowers all over. It was almost as if they devoured the earth beneath them. If one were to look in either direction, it would seem as if the flowers never stopped.
Among these flowers was a young girl, kneeling in front of two headstones. The girl's golden blonde hair seemed to be even brighter with the sun shining on it, her blue eyes reflecting the sky above her.
In her hands she clutched a stone, attached to her neck with a chain. It was all she had left.
She came here often. It was a part of her daily routine now.
It's crazy how a single event can turn someone's life upside down, she thought.
The air brushed against her long hair. The smell of lavender calmed her. Not a single chirp or bug could be heard. The silence would bother most, make them want to fill it. But not her. She liked the silence, found it soothing. This place always calmed her, even though it always brought her pain. Maybe time really does heal. But she knew she would never heal, not completely.
A quiet tear rolled down her cheeks, and she didn't bother to wipe it off. She had been dreading this day, as she did every year.
She finally broke the silence.
"I'm sorry," she whispered.
She walked away, the silence now restored.
But that didn't stop the tears from pouring down her face.
