Lance walked down the hall to the music roomm, guiter case tucked under one arm.
He came to the children's hospital every Friday to teach music to the children in longterm care. It was definitely his favorite part of the week; not beacause it wasn't school or bbecause he was getting paid for it (but those are very good reasons), but because he got the oppurtunity to spread joy to these innocent children. They had so much enthusiasm and potential... Lance could only hope each and every one of them got a chance to show it to the world.
"Mr. Lance!" A little girl cried.
It was nice to know that the children enjoyed the end of the week music lessons just as much as their instructor did.
"Hey, Anna!" Lance greeted the small child. Anna was rhe most enthusiastic during the music lessons. He mentioned it to one of the nurses, and the reply he got wasn't what he was expecting. The nurse had said the young girl wasn't very interested in a lot of other things like the other kids. Anna was a smart kid, and could see the doctor's negativity when something would go wrong. She could tell her body wasn't doing too well. The child enjoyed the music lessons because it gave her a chance to feel like a kid who would get the chance to lead a normal life.
"Okay, ya'll ready?" Lance called out to the kids. As soon as the children heard their instructor's voice, they all turned their heads towards him to pay attention. "Okay, we're gonna work on the song we worked on last time! You guys remember it?" A handful of the kids nodded their heads or interjected little 'yeah!'s. In a matter of seconds they started singing the lyrics to one of Lance's favorite songs, "This Is Me" from The Greatest Showman, with their teacher leading them. He had some of the more musically competent children like Anna singing the beginning parts with him, while the others would join them for the chorus.
After they had sang it a few times, the children looked accomplished and a little worn out, and Lance decided it was time to take a break. "That was so good, guys! Are ya'll ready for your families to watch next Friday?" His question was met with excited exclamations from the kids. Lance couldn't help but feel proud, even if he was just someone who came to teach them music one a week. Yet, he had watched some of them grow over the years. He was nineteen, and had been coming to the hospital to teach music since he was seventeen. He had offered, since he loved to play guitar and occasionally sing, and he had experience with kids from all his siblings. It really did make him happy, especially since he was providing fun for the children. After they had gone over it a few times, the lesson was over. Lance decided to stop for a coffee on the way back to the apartment. He definitely loved the kids, but working with them could be a little draining.
His phone sitting on the passenger seat of his car started to ring and vibrate. He glanced at the screen for just a split second to see who it was. It was Pidgeon (Pidge Gunderson). Lance picked up the phone and held it to his ear between the side of his head and his shoulder. "Talk to me, Pidge," He said into the phone. "You're late," An unamused Pidge deadpanned. Shoot! Lance had almost forgot he was hanging out with Pidge and Hunk today. "Uhh..." Lance frantically loked for an excuse. "Sorry... I wanted coffee, and I'm in like the middle of town. It'll take me a sec." "Seriously, Lance? You're drinking coffee at almost four'o clock?" Lance rolled his eyes. "Kids can be draining, Pidge. You would understand if you ever had younger siblings or had a job involving kids." "Whatever," Pidge sounded uninterested. She had never been the best with kids. "Just be her by four thirty, please. The movie starts at five. SO BE HERE BY FOUR THIRTY-" Lance hung up because he could listen to Pidge boss him around later.
Lance suddenly wished he hadn't hung up so he could ask Pidge something. He was wondering if Shiro and... He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named were going too. He hoped Shiro was going, just not... Keith. That dude was always trying to show him up. Always trying to challenge him to something. Really, just correcting him and basically rubbing Lance's nose in whatever he did wrong. Ha, Keith. Such a jerk. Lance pulled up to the coffee shop and walked inside. He almost flipped a table over when he saw who was behind the counter. You know who was there? A freakin' mullet. You know who's mullet? Freakin' Keith!
