The moonlight bounced off the crystal clear water, it looked black in the night time, I organized all my thoughts, replaying memories I didn’t want to in the back of my mind, everyday seemed to drag on but at the end of the day came together into one big blur.

So many times I had thought about jumping into this lake, ending it all now, feeling the icy water sink onto my pale skin as I sunk deeper and deeper, I just wanted to be free, carefree, I just wanted to melt the pain away, no one was looking, maybe if I just…

“Kayla? What are you doing out here in the cold?” my sister Cheyenne asked with a blanket wrapped around her petite shoulders, her short thick layered chin length pitch black hair was sticking up in the back, her eyes squinted as she tried to focus on me, she moved slow as she sat on the edge of the big flat heart shaped rock that sat on the very edge of the earth, underneath, perhaps 10 feet or so, was a deep lake filled with seaweed and other sea life, She wrapped the blanket around me and held onto me.

“What are you thinking about?” her voice soft and scratchy, completely different then her regular sweet tone.

“The usual” I said dropping my head onto her shoulder as it moved slowly with ever breath she took and every one she let out, she sighed and said nothing looking up at he moon, I gazed into the water, recapping what I could remember of my day.

-Earlier that day-

“Hey slut” Chelsea Goldman said as she walked by me.

“Shut up Chelsea, not like your any better” my friend, basically my only friend Georgia shot back at her, everyone called me provocative names, thinking there cool, being funny, shoving me around in the hallways because I got their precious math teacher fired.

“Excuse me ginger, I wasn’t talking to you” Chelsea bitched back, Georgia isn’t even a redhead, she had dyed her hair blood red at the end of Junior year.

“Excuse me fatty but I don’t think you should go around calling people things they aren’t” Chelsea’s face turned bright red as she looked down at her stomach.

“I’m not fat you little bitch!” she fired back Georgia laughed.

“Exactly my point, how did that feel when I just called you that? Bet it didn’t feel good!” Chelsea scoffed.

“Where are you going with this small brain” she sassed.

“My point is, don’t call me ginger, I’m brunette, don’t call Kay a slut because she’s not, I called you fat which your not but it lowered your self esteem just now because you actually believed me, it’s a two way street, I just hope your ready to live on it because I’m the bad ass neighbor that party’s all night and tp’s your house” I snickered into my sweatshirt sleeve, Chelsea was clueless as to what George just said.

“Oh yeah, well, well, ughhh” she stomped off into the crowd, her heels clanking behind her, as she walked away I had somewhere in the back of my mind hoped that she would snap them and twist her ankle, but I’m not that mean.

“Thanks Georgie” I smiled, she reached her arms out and pulled me in, Georgia was my best friend, she was the only friend, let alone the only person who knew my secret, the truth.

“Anytime honey” she squeezed me tighter as we took on the rest of our day.
