When lunch was over we headed to class. In Math, I decided to sit next to River while Matt and Will sits behind us. My two friends held in their laughter, seeing River and me sitting beside each other. He whipped his head to look at them and frowned.

"Would you two shut up!" River growled and looked at me who had a smirk on my face "And why are you sitting beside me? Go be an annoying midget somewhere else."

I sat back and stretched my limbs while I hummed "If you're gonna be friends with us, you've got to endure the beast." I wiggled my eyebrow as he cocked his.

"You? A beast? You nearly fainted when I showed the caterpillar to you yesterday." River scoffed as he ran his hand through his hair, making the girls beside him sigh deeply.

"Well who was the one scared of some girls?" My smirk grew wider seeing him furrow his eyebrows in anger. Matt suddenly grabs the back of my seat and leaned in.

"Are you kidding me? Those girls are spawn of Satan." He shudders again, and Will nods.

"Amen to that. I remember Mary trying to make out with me." Will shudders as well while Matt rubbed his back in a comforting manner and wiped a face tear.

"I know. A terrifying experience." My ginger friend sniffs.

River held in his laughter, and I placed my elbow on the desk, leaning to my hand "Aw, is wittle Wivew laughing?" I pouted and He-I assume- rolled his eyes under his shades and looked at me again.

"I still don't know why I sat beside you." He frowned at me.

"Because you love us." I batted my eyelashes, and he shoved my face back.

"Yeah, I'm starting to like Will and Matt. But you? You have a long way to go, sweetheart." He smirked at me as I mirrored his smirk and leaned froward, the smell of peppermint getting stronger.

"Is that a challenge?" I asked.

River also leans in, and I can see the outlines of his eyes "Maybe it is." he growled at me. We both leaned back and resumed to what we were doing earlier. I heard Matt kicking Will's stool, and Will jumped.

"Damn it Will, you didn't take a picture!" Matt scolded him and he raised his hands in return.

"Well excuse me for being the normal one here who needed to take out his book!" Will yelled, dumping the book on his desk with a slam.

Suddenly Mrs. Butcher, yes that is her real name, walked in and closed the door loudly behind her. She walked to her desk with her signature stern look on her face. Her eyes landed on River as he gave her a nod and she returned it before returning her attention in front.

"Alright people, you will be having a pop quiz. But since I've been in a good mood this afternoon, you can have a partner to help you." She nodded to herself and the students mutter somethings under their breaths.

"You may now start." Mrs. Butcher gave out the test papers and we passed it on.

As expected, Will and Matt will be partners, leaving me with River. Great. Fantastic. Super. Before I could open my mouth and tell River, some girls walked up to him.

"Hey, River! I was wondering if you would like to join in our little group on working on this quiz." She smiled at him "I mean, since you don't have a partner or anything." The other girl said and tucked her blonde hair at the back of her ear. Oh god. I look at River, and seeing him in distress internally makes me warm inside. Welp, time for the rescuing.
