White Noise

The fan is whirring in the corner of my dark room,

but the plug breaks and it stops.

I tell myself, it's okay, it'll be fine,

but then I'm stuck in the silence.

No distractions to keep me from my thoughts,

no noise to scare the nightmares away.

The white noise kept me from slipping into the darkness,

deep, deep, deep down until I can't breath.

My thoughts suffocate me until I've lost faith that I'll ever breath again.

The sun eventually rises,

and the birds start chirping.

The cars go by my windows,

wind blowing and horns beeping.

White Noise sings me to sleep as I make a mental note to fix my fan.
