The whole day so far was going just as any other day. It was now lunch time so I could finally just sit, relax, and be alone. I grabbed a bag of chips before I left the cafeteria. But as I was leaving my eyes found their way to Ashkii and I saw why I didn't know who he was.
He was a "popular". No wonder. I walked out the doors and over to where the football field was. I climbed up the bleachers and sat in the ones all the way at the top. These ones weren't covered, and the ones that were, weren't opened up at the moment.
So I sat down, set my bag underneath the bleachers and opened up my chips, slipping one in my mouth and leaning my head on the railing behind me, closing my eyes.
"Do you like being soaked or something?" A voice spoke up, making me jump. I opened my eyes just as Ashkii sat next to me, holding an umbrella above us.
"I like the rain and this is where I always sit. What are you doing?" I asked him, raising my eyebrow. He looked up at me with his own eyebrows raised.
"I'm eating lunch. What does it look like in doing?" He asked, scooting closer to me, so he was underneath the umbrella better.
"No. I mean why are you sitting here? You have other friends yah? Why don't you hang out with them?" I asked him, crossing my arms and stuffing another chip in my mouth.
"Sure I've got friends. But I mean, I'm bored with them. They cause drama and it's just the same old crap everyday. But you...you are, different. I don't know you and you seem interesting." He said taking a large bite of his sandwich.
"Trust me, it's the same old crap everyday with me too." I said, pulling my knees up to my chest and putting my chin on one of my knees.
"Nah. You're more entertaining then them." He told me taking a big gulp of his Gatorade. I sighed and shook my head, taking another chip into my mouth.
"So, let's get to know each other better." He said looking at me. We asked each other loads of different questions, just trying to know each other better. Of course I was the one asking most questions, trying to keep the attention off of me.
"So you doing anything after school? Maybe we can hang out?" He asked after he finished his lunch. He had eaten an entire sandwich, a salad, a bag of chips and a Gatorade and I had just now gotten halfway finished with my chips.
"Uhm...no I don't think I can. I have to-" I was cut off by my iPod ringing from inside my bag. I quickly grabbed it and looked at the screen. I got a new message from mom. I opened it up and read what she said. The message read:
"Your therapist isn't going to be available today he wasn't there so you don't have to do anything today. Love you!xxx"
Okay so I'm free.
"Or...maybe I don't have anything to do after school." I mumbled, replying an 'okay' before putting it back in my bag.
"Cool! So now we can hang out after school. What do you want to do?" He asked, looking excited.
"I don't care. Just nothing crazy." I told him. The bell was going to ring any minute so, I slid my hood back on and grabbed my bag. Just like I suspected, the bell rang, indicating that it was time to go to our next class.
"What class do you have next?" Ashkii asked, standing next to me while holding the umbrella up between us.
"Art."
"Oh cool me too." He smiled and I lightly smiled back as we walked to the art classroom. Once again on the way there, we made small talk until we got there.
* * * *
When the last class of the day ended I went to meet Ashkii over at his car. Not long after I got there, two girls that he was hanging out with at the beginning of lunch came up to me.
"Ashkii said to get away from his car." One said, both of them crossing their arms. I scoffed, confused.
"He told me to meet him here though." I said, my voice now quieter.
"Well he changed his mind. So you better get out of here." The other one said. I sighed and picked up my bag from the ground. How could I be such an idiot? I always just avoid everyone but noo I had to go and open my big mouth and talk to the guy. I knew it all was too good to be true.
I walked away from the car and down the sidewalk. I can't been gullible like that. I'm going to get myself hurt. What was I thinking? Well I guess I was just hoping he would actually care but, no. Nobody cares...
I probably walked about half a block until the familiar car pulled up next to me.
"What are you doing? I thought you were going to ride with me?" He asked driving slowly along the sidewalk because this time I didn't stop walking to talk to him.
"I thought so too." I said back to him, still facing forward. By now, I was soaked to the bone and my hair was wet and in my face so I didn't even bother putting up my hood.
"Stop fucking around. Get in the car or you are gonna get sick." He said, still driving beside me.
"No you changed your mind so why keep playing along with the act? I'm not getting in your damn car so leave me alone." I said, ignoring him completely now. He shook his head and sped away, going down the road until he turned and I couldn't see him anymore.
After about 20 minutes I got home and walked through my door and into my room. I threw my backpack in my closet because I had already finished my homework at school, so I wouldn't need to see it again today.
I grabbed an umbrella and opened my window. I climbed out of it and went up the fire escape and up to the roof. I sat in the center with the umbrella above me and just sat there, like everyday.
