After a while, he swings around in his chair and It feels like all the air left my lungs. Familiar hazel eyes, olive skin complexion, luscious black hair messily done into a quiff and a jawline which fractures his face perfectly. His full pink lips form into a devilish smirk as he motions me to take a seat.
My jaw almost hits the perfectly marbelled floor when I saw him. Eyes blinking fast, matching my heart rate as I try to comprehend things.
He squints at me and then tilts his head.
It is when I notice that this long I've been standing at the door. I quietly get in and take a seat, placing my purse on my lap. My palms were sweaty and my heart beat was accelerating with every passing minute.
I suck in a deep breath, all the scenes from today's morning coming back to my memory. Zayn Malik. I had read his name on the official website of Niaz Enterprises and he was the same guy who gave me a ride in his car this morning.
If I would have asked his name this morning then I would be prepared for such an encounter.
I think now I know the reason behind his amusement when he heard the name of the company. His Company. I correct myself, my vision focused on my sweating palms. I could feel his burning gaze on me and of course, the smirk.
"Evelyn Winifred Cooper, 21 from Chicago." My head shot up in his direction and I saw him shifting his gaze to his laptop. My resume, I simply nodded. Unable to form any proper sentence.
He looks at me for a split second, assessing me properly and then shifting his vision back to his laptop.
"Where did you seek your higher education, Miss Cooper?" He asks, eyes still focused on bright screen of the gadget as his thumb grazes his lower lip.
"R-Rosefield High School." I stutter. Why the hell was he making me so nervous? I mentally slap myself for making my first impression all the more bad but I couldn't help it that he was so intimidating.
"I'm enquiring about the University, Miss Cooper, not school. " He says calmly as his thumb brushes his chin.
I mentally slap myself. I shut my eyes for a millisecond and then with a mild voice say, " Northwestern Illinois University"
"Hm. No working experiences, Miss Cooper? " His eyes were now looking at me intently as his voice was cold and monotonous, as always. His daunting aura seems to intimidate me to the utmost.
His thumb grazes his lower lip, again. If I say he doesn't look attractive when he did that then I'd definitely be lying.
Focus. My subconsiousness snaps at me.
I fidget in my seat when he fires that question at me and at that moment I just wanted to duck under that huge table and hide or just runaway somewhere.
No, I don't have any experiences but everything has a start. I remain silent and with a hesitant smile on my face, merely nod.
"Impressive, " He says after what feels like an eternity and leans back in his chair, vision still on his laptop as his eyes examine what was my resume.
"Thank you, " I mumble and then bite my lower lip. I couldn't quite understand what was so impressive in not having a working experience but I kept mum.
After that an eerie silence takes over. He would casually look at me from his laptop and odd exhilarating chills would run down my spine whenever he did. I was starting to feel pathetic because of effect he had on me but yet again, I couldn't help it. After some time I heard a loud sigh escape his lips, his expression still unreadable. Poker faced.
I bite the inside of my cheek nervously, a thousand insecurities popping in my head.
"Your grades are quite impressive, Miss Cooper, " He says after a thought, head tilting a bit."You have done quite well in your school as well as university." His hands raked his hand through black hair as he continues.
He then asks me a few more questions about my education, reason I chose to work with Niaz and etcetera.
"I think we're done now,"
He moves his gaze from the laptop to me and biting my lower lip, I take it as my cue to leave.
"Um, thanks. " I whisper and doubt if he heard it but then without wasting a minute, I stand up from my seat immediately. Putting the strap of my purse over one shoulder I smile at him for one last time and proceed towards the partially open door. As my hand reaches to handle to push it open I hear him call my name.
"Miss Cooper," My head snaps to his direction. He gets up from his seat and walks over to me as gracefully as ever.
The smirk that later was on his face now was replaced by a grim expression. Oh, well.
I look down at my hands, he makes me feel really nervous.
"Don't bother to be late next time." His minty breath fans my ear and I swallow.
His face was so close to mine that a shiver runs down my spine and the smell of his cologne mixed with what smells like cigarettes intoxicates my senses. I still felt his breath on my shoulder and I part my lips, letting out a shallow breath.
I heard him chuckle. He was used to this.
Ofcourse, he was. He was intense, charming and intimidating. Your chimeric stereotypical CEO you see in movies.
After my embarrassing encounter, he holds the door open for me.
"After you," He smiles a genuine smile, flashing his white teeth. This is a first.
A blush creeps on my cheeks as I shy away and walk out followed by him.
Brooke is standing outside with my blazer in her hand.
"How did it go?" She bestows me a smile and helps with my blazer.
"Good enough, " Even though it wasn't anything like an interview. More like twenty questions.
"Great. Hope to see you again, Eve." Brooke says as she tucks a lose strand of her ginger hair behind her ear.
"Likewise, " I say, wary of Zayn's cold gaze on me.
I mumble a thank you to her and wave her goodbye while Zayn leads me to the elevator.
Once we approach the elevator, I thank him once again before stepping in to which he nods.
Our eyes meet for a split second, his gaze never leaving mine. He seems preoccupied, thinking out something deep.
I shift my gaze to his tall muscular body, stiff and broad shoulders and his posture. His one hand slips into his jeans pocket as he takes out something from it. His penetrative hazel eyes assess me the way I assess him and it feels like he was trying to find out something just by looking at me, like I was some puzzle. And for what feels like a little eternity the elevator door slides close and I lose the sight of him.
