IntroductionGeneral knowledge about service animals is important for people to know even if they have one or not. Service animals are important to people who need extra help may be walking, standing up, awareness, anxiety, ptsd, and a lot more reasons you may need a service animal.
People DO NOT need any identification as a service animal to bring their animal into a place where the general public is allowed.
Types of Service Animals
There are many types of service animals. Some do not have public access rights. There are Therapy dogs, Emotional Support Animals (ESA), and Service Animals. Let's start with therapy dogs. Therapy dogs are trained dogs to give comfort to others, such as dogs who are brought to nursing homes, hospitals, and other places. Therapy dogs are not allowed in every place the general public is allowed. Therapy dogs are ONLY allowed in places where they have a job to do. Emotional Support Animals can be any type of animal that brings comfort to someone. They can be cats, dogs, bunnies, horses, and many more. ESAs are not allowed in public BUT are allowed free of charge on planes and in no pet housing. ESAs need no training. In order to have an ESA you must have a letter from a doctor or a therapist saying that you need one/what you need it for. Service Animals can be any breed of dog or miniature horse. Service Animals need lots of training and need to be task trained at least two tasks to mitigate a disability of its handler. Service Animals do not need any identification they do not NEED a vest, tag, or ID card/certificate. Service Animals do have public access and must be trained well, and must be behaveable even before you bring it into stores and such places to train it.
Emotional Support Animals
Emotional Support Animals Do not need any training. Emotional Support Animals must have a doctors note with the reasons you need the animal. Emotional Support Animals are not allowed in public. They can be a distraction or other working animals. (Distracting working animals is against the law and you can pay large fines and go to jail) ESAs are not task trained. They are allowed free of charge in housing and on planes.
Service Animals
Service Animals can be any breed of dog or miniature horse. Service Animals need lots of training and need to be task trained to mitigate a disability of its handler. Service Animals do not need any identification they do not NEED a vest, tag, or ID card/certificate. Service Animals do have public access and must be trained well, and must be behaveable even before you bring it into stores and such places to train it.
