Keith hated having to go to the office after getting in trouble. It had happened so many times as a kid, He was a little more used to it now. But he still hated it. It didn't help that Lance was right there with him. Yet, it didn't exactly make it unbearable. Keith felt confused. Usually, he could tell exactly how he felt about someone. Like, if he hated them or actually thought they werw pretty okay. With Lance, he couldn't. Like, he thought he was totally annoying and self-absorbed, when in reality, he wasn't all that and a bag of chips. But he felt like there was voice in the back of his mind that would say weird stuff without any context.
For example, when Keith would get to thinking, man, Lance was pretty annoying today,  the voice would tell him, shut up.
It was pretty weird. He didn't think much about it, though.
The sound of wood creaking pulled him out of bis conscience. Keith looked up to see that Lance had opened the door, and was giving him a kind of weird look. Then, he realized he had probably been staring.
Hope I didn't have a weird face, he thought to himself.
In the office, Mr. Altea was sitting at his desk, as usual. The vice headmistress, Mrs. Honerva Daibazaal (also wife to Mr. Altea's best friend, Mr. Zarkon Daibazaal), was seated across the desk from Mr. Altea. Probably discussing imprortant matters. Suddenly, Keith felt even more selfconscious, having intruded on an important discussion.
He was going to explain him and Lance's unanniunced entrance when he started to stutter. Mrs. Daibazaal gave him a kind, almost motherly look with a patient, encouraging smile. That's why everyone liked Mrs. Daibazaal. She was so kind and patient, and always handled matters very meticulously. Not that Mr. Altea didn't, but Mrs. Daibazaal just did everything... better. That's the only way one could describe her actions. Thankfully, Lance took up talking for the two boys.
"We were sent by Mr. Smight, after a... dispute," Lance explained. Keith quietly admired his sudden actual use of grammar. Most times, the Cuban boy just acted stupid.
Mr. Altea nodded slowly in understanding. After they had explained the whole story in better detail, it looked like Mr. Altea had come to a conclusion. "Well, that's not too terrible. Just two days scraping gum off the bottoms of the desks should prove fit fod a punishment." Mrs. Daibazaal gave a small smile of agreement. "Then it's settled, " Keith could see the distraught on Lance's face after hearing their punishment. "Now, back to class with you two." The headmaster shooed them away before theg could protest.
As soon as Keith closed the door behind him and Lance, Lance let out a small grunt of frustration.
