Chapter 1: Beginnings (Warning: Slight course language)
I hate moving. Full stop no question about it. I absolutely hate, despise moving. Worst of all I'm not just moving to another town. No, that wouldn't be as bad. I'm not just moving to another state, no we had to move out of the BLOODY COUNTRY. I've lived in Australia all my life and then out of the blue, 'hey Eva, darling your moving to America. So what do you want for dinner?' Frankly it pissed me off that I only got 2 weeks warning that I was moving schools (and countries). However, I was sort of happy to be moving to a different school, meeting new people. The main reason why I never just ran away or refused to unchain myself from the house. I hated moving further and further away from my family tomb. My parents were dead and I was only a few weeks old when it happened.
I was currently in my room packing the last of my things to catch the plane later today. I was in a bad mood and I really didn't want to go. "Why so glum Eva?" asked Aunty Caroline. "You f*cking know why" I grumbled under my breathe. "Elisheva Amber Lupinotuum! I do NOT want to hear that sort of language from you!" "Sorry," I sighed and I really meant it. "So are you finished packing yet?" I asked nonchalantly. "I'm not going remember?" she says with a duh look on her face. I'm still surprised she's still single I mean she has long blond hair, big blue eyes and a hot body and even being a girl I can still admit that. She was a beauty my aunt and she was still only 25 years old. "Yeah," I mumbled "so then who am I staying with and why now that I'm 16?" I asked generally curious.
"Well it was your fathers plan that if they ever died that you would live with your grandmother and me being his sister and all. Then your mother wanted you to live with some cousins of hers in California when you turned about 16. What were their names again? I think it was your mother's cousin Harper, herd, herpes, hale, hunger. Hale, that's right that's what their names were." I started laughing like a maniac, "What did I say?" she mumbled to herself while staring at me rolling on the floor with laughter flowing out of my mouth like water.
A light must have gone of in her head because her face was suddenly different. "Hey," she wined "herpes is no laughing matter." She was being serious and it just caused me to laugh harder. "You, though, their, last, name, was, herpes." I choked out between fits of laughter. "Ok, well that was pretty funny. Kitten's being baked alive in a pie." My laughter stopped as I thought about it. "Thanks" I said. She always said something depressing when I couldn't stop laughing. "But who are they?" I asked now that I wasn't having an attack of laughter.
"Well, I couldn't get ahold of anyone at their house so I called into one of your mothers old friends who works for the police. He said that the Hales died in a fire a while back now, well except for 3 of them who have moved further away, and that he would be happy to take up your mother's wishes. Apparently, they were very close during high school. So you will be moving in with him." She stated happily grinning like a Cheshire cat. "So, who ARE they?" I asked her loudly. "Right, I forget his first name but his last name is Stilinski. He has a son around your age too" she smiled slyly and started nudging me with her arm.
"Oh, shut up. Just cause I'm going to be living with a boy my age doesn't mean I'm going to start going with him. I mean seriously Carols!" I was really starting to get really pissed at her stubbornness. "Ok, calm down grumpy pants." She says frowning mockingly, "Well, I must reside from this conversation to the kitchen because apparently that where bitches belong." She walked to the door and left, "hypocrite," I mumbled. "I heard that" she shouted from the kitchen. She's always had a real good sense of hearing. I packed up the big suitcase I was taking with me and the 2 carry on bags I had. I never really had anything with me because I wasn't a girly girl. I didn't own any makeup unless you count Chap Stick and the only piece of jewelry I owned was a wooden locket, with a wolf howling at the moon, carved into the front of it. It had a lock for it and I had never opened it.
I dragged my suit case and stuff out the front door and chucked them into the back of Carol's light blue pick up truck. After waiting another half an hour for Caroline to finish stuffing her face with food, we finally started on our way to airport all the way in Perth. I hated short car rides that's why I hated the 15 minutes it took to get into the city. After we had parked in the car park, Caroline let out a long sigh. She reached into the glove box and pulled out a envelope, then handed it to me. "This is from your mother, she gave it to me a week before she died to give to you if this moment came" she said before handing it to me. She pulled something else out from underneath the seat. It was a small leather satchel filled with something. "Don't open the envelope before your flight takes off and don't open the satchel. The envelope will explain the rest."She was sniffling and we climbed out of the car so she could engulf me in a hug. "Come on we don't want to miss your flight" she said finally back to her old self.
She pulled my giant suitcase out of the back and we walked inside the airport. She signed me in for the flight and made our way over to the terminal. We had been walking along for 5 minutes when she finally spoke. "You know, I'm going to miss you so much" Caroline told me. "Me too" I replied before she started blabbing on about the arrangements. "Caroline, Caroline, CAROLINE!" I yelled to get her attention. A few people looked at us weird but I just ignored them. "I have to go now" I said when she finally paid attention. "I'm going to miss you so, so much Eva. Who's going to cook for me and who's is going to be my best friend now," She complained. "I'm going to miss you too," I said starting to get teary "I will call you heaps. I promise." We hugged for a long time before we said our goodbyes and I walked away to get on the plane. This was going to be one painfully, long plane ride I thought to myself before I finally got on and took my seat.
