I was just chilling on the couch, waiting for my bro to finish up his phone call to Alphys, when he suddenly gasped.
"REALLY?! A SURPRISE? I LOVE SURPRISES!" Papyrus shouted into the receiver. "HURRY OVER!"
"What's going on?" I asked after he hung up.
My brother clasped his gloved hands together joyfully. "Alphys wasn't home, but Mettaton was, so he's coming over instead! And he's bringing a SURPRISE!"
I shrugged and picked up the stack of movies from the floor. "Alrighty... whaddya want to watch first? We have Deadpool, we have—"
"Oh, Deadpool! Definitely! He's a COOL DUDE!!!"
"Sooooo would you say he's............."
"Why do I feel a pun coming on..."
"DeadCOOL?" I put up a pair of finger-guns.
"SAAAAAAAAAAAAAANS!!!!!!!"
//Mettaton P.O.V.//
I approached the new home of the skeleton brothers, with (Y/N) tucked snugly into a large satchel at my side. It was the closest thing I could find to a baby carrier lying around. I guess Alphys doesn't take them outside too often.
I knocked on the door, which was almost immediately opened by Papyrus, the tallest of the brothers.
"WELCOME TO OUR HUMBLE ABODE!"
"Tone it down bro," drawled a voice from somewhere inside. "You're gonna wake the whole neighborhood."
"Why would anyone be SLEEPING? It's the afternoon!" The gangly skeleton noticed my satchel and bounced a little in excitement. "WOWIE!!! IS THAT THE SURPRISE IN THERE?!"
"Yes, it—" I began, but was promptly swept inside.
"Sans, he really DID bring a surprise! I hope it's spaghetti! But rigatoni or ravioli is good too, of course! I'm a skeleton with a broad palette!"
I made my best attempt at a chuckle, but it came out sounding about as forced as it actually was.
"I did not bring food, actually... Dr. Alphys has asked me to care for one of her little creations, and I've brought it with me." I undid the clasp on the satchel's top, and in a slimy blur, (Y/N) burst out and started running in circles around Papyrus while making delighted warbling and screeching noises.
"OH MY GOD, WHAT IS THAT?!" Papyrus shouted.
"I know, they're kinda—"
"IT'S ADORABLE!" He gushed, scooping up the hyperactive creature. He turned around to show them to Sans.
"BROTHER, IT'S A PUPPY!"
Sans rolled his eyes. "That's not even close to a dog, bro. What did you say it was, 'Ton?"
"I-it's sort of..." I stammered, trying to decide how not to reveal too much about what Alphys had done in the past. "Basically like a mutant monster toddler."
Papyrus gasped, holding the squirming (Y/N) close to his ribcage. "An INFANT??? We can't watch Deadpool with such a young monster around! Mutant or not, innocence must be protected!!"
I was a little shocked at the implication that Papyrus himself was not innocent, but I digress. I was really looking forward to just relaxing with a movie night...
Then again... maybe I could use this opportunity to get the brothers to babysit for me!
——Time Skipperooni——
The brothers were actually a lot better with kids than I anticipated. Sans kept up with the schedule pretty well, and didn't seem bothered when (Y/N) devoured their dinner in one bite. Papyrus took care of the entertainment portion, showing (Y/N) some children's cartoons on the television. Although the little monster seemed more interested in making spit bubbles.
As disgusted as I had initially been with young (Y/N), I was beginning to grow almost endeared with their antics. I mean, it really isn't their fault for being this way... and for what it's worth, they're doing their best.
I heard a ringing noise, and it took a few seconds for me to realize it was coming from the phone built into my body. I moved to another room so as not to disturb anyone and picked up.
"Eeeeeeee-yeeeeees?"
"OH MY GOD!" Shrieked Alphys' voice from the other end. "Where ARE YOU?! Where's (Y/N)?!"
"Woah! Stay calm, Al!" I said coolly. "We're over at Sans and Papyrus' place. Everything's peachy."
A moment or two of silence. Then, Alphys grumbled, "You pawned your responsibilities off on them, didn't you?"
"Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe?"
"Get your metal butt over here now." With that, she hung up.
Papyrus, of course, was sad to see (Y/N) go and made me promise to schedule more "playdates". Sans seemed indifferent, but I think he liked the kid too.
Alphys was seriously pissed off by the time we got back. She went on a rant about me being irresponsible, but I wasn't paying much attention, as I was watching (Y/N) attempt to balance a fork on the tip of their snout. The key word being "attempt".
The utensil clattered to the floor once again, and I laughed absentmindedly.
Alphys took notice of my growing fondness of the little monster. She smiled despite herself.
"Maybe you would benefit from practicing some more babysitting?"
I tried to hide my inner response behind a scoff. "As if I would want to continue watching over that slimy thing...!"
(Y/N) leapt up onto my head and sat there, obviously quite pleased with themselves for such a big jump.
"Alright, maybe just a little more......"
"I thought so."
