[I decided to do something a bit different with this oneshot. Instead of the idol AU like I usually do, I did more of a family/friend AU...if that makes sense? I was also playing around with different ways to break up the story.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy! 💜]

It's an undeniable fact that pets can bring positivity into a human being’s life. Whether it be the less stressful difference in communication, the motherly responsibility of caring for a life, slight jealousy of having a pampered life, etc., it all brings a change for the better.

That is, if you've prepared prior to which pet has caught your eye.

“Tae…”

“Yeah?” Taehyung said to Jin as he continued to throw bits of shredded lettuce into a cardboard box.

“That's...that's a nice box you have there on the table.”

“I know, right?! I found it next to the neighbors trash can. But don't worry, I made sure to clean it out.” Taehyung made sure to face the elder with his infamous box smile before turning back to his lettuce shredding.

Jin blinked harshly and pressed his lips together. “That's good. But, uhm...why is there a turtle in the box?”

“Young Gerald.”

“...excuse me?”

Taehyung ceased his shredding, wrapped up the remaining lettuce and stood in front of his brother with his arms crossed. “His name his Young Gerald. He feels uncomfortable when you don't call him by his given name. Also, it's rude to assume someone's species. He can be whatever he wants be! ...All that I know is that he's going to get bigger, and that's what really matters here.”

“I don't even know where to start with you.” Jin sighed as he rubbed his temples.

“Well, like what I've been told before, 'you can't finish what you've never started!’ Isn't that right, Young Gerald?” The eccentric younger cooed out to his new pet, hands clasped together as he watched the green animal chomp on his lettuce.

Jin gave another sigh and shook his head. “Okay, whatever. You do you. Just answer me this…. Where did you even find the money to buy him? We're already struggling enough as it is.”

“Oh, I know. That's why I traded.”

“Traded what…. exactly?” Jin said slowly, gut pinching in fear at what his little brother just said.

“Yup!” Taehyung cheered with his boxy smile on full display. “I gave that boy my leftover Halloween and Christmas candy, and that one weird painting that Namjoon painted for you on your guys' anniversary.”

“Taehyung!”

“What…?” Taehyung's smile dropped at the sight of his older brother’s wide eyes and shocked face.

“You...are an absolute genius.” Jin whispered, a smile creeping on to his face. “I've been trying to get rid of that horrid painting for months! Thank you and your impulsive decisions!”

Taehyung's box smile returned once more and gave his older brother a hug. “I just wanted Young Gerald.”

“Alright, I guess you can have him. Just take care of him properly, okay?”

Taehyung rolled his eyes and carefully took the tortoise from out of the box. “I know. I'm sixteen. I know more or less how to take care of things that are alive. Anyway,” he coddled his new pet to his chest and began to walk towards the front door, “I'm going to the park. Jiminie and I are gonna take Young Gerald for his first walk!”

Needless to say, the walk did not end well. The dogs at the park mistook the poor reptile as a ball, and Jimin spent the rest of his day consoling his broken hearted friend.
