Erika Simpson's POV:"Erika! Hurry up! Tina is outside waiting for you!", My mom screamed from downstairs up to my room. I almost forgot that Tina was coming to pick me up to go to school. I looked at the clock to reveal it was 6:24, we had to be at school by 6:00. By this time, my brother Ian was already on his way to school with his friends Joba and Matt. We really screwed up this time.
I quickly threw on my favorite pair of ripped skinny jeans and my new cropped Thrasher sweatshirt. I slipped on my black vans and tied up my curly brown hair into a messy bun. I then hurried downstairs to see my best friend leaning on her car, grinning at her phone.
"Hey.", I said as I walked to the passenger side of her car, plugging my phone into the AUX cord.
"What took you so long? I texted you like 20 times!" Tina scolded me as she makes her way back to the driver's side.
"Sorry, I had to stay up all night working on that stupid science project.", I complained as I put on my seat belt and checked my makeup in the rear view mirror.
"Wasn't that due last week?", Tina looked at me with confused eyes.
"Really? Oops.", I shrugged it off and put my backpack in the backseat of her car.
We then drove listening to some Tyler The Creator and G-Eazy. We finally made it to school by 6:45, we got out of the car and walked towards the main entrance of our high school. As we made our way, trying to avoid the main office, the secretaries called for us when we attempted to walk the other direction. They practically threw us late slips and we were off to class. We shoved open the door hearing it bang against the wall cutting the teacher off mid sentence. All eyes were on us.
"Ms. Simpson and Ms. Railey! This has been the fourth day of this week! Do you seriously have something better to do then be in MY classroom?! Detention. After school." The teacher yelled from across the room.
Tina and I locked eyes and shrugged walking to our seats. This is going to be a long day.
The bell finally rang after hours of classes, it was now time for lunch. Like usual, Tina and I sit at the small table in the back of the cafeteria near the windows. While we were eating our lunch, I see my brother and his friend Joba walking up to us from afar. He places his hands on the table and locks eyes with me.
"What is up with you being late?" Ian asks irritated.
"I heard you got detention.", Joba kindly adds in looking at us with a forced grin.
"You heard correctly.", Tina sarcastically says as she takes a bite out of her apple. Erika looks away avoiding eye contact with her brother.
"Are you serious Erika. You know what, whatever, get in trouble all you want. Just wait until mom hears about this." Ian then storms away with Joba trailing behind him.
As I looked toward my brother, I heard a loud slam that echoed throughout the cafeteria. Everyone quickly turned their heads to see where the source of the commotion was coming from.
There we see my brother's friend, Matt, busting through the main doors of the lunchroom on his skateboard. He continues to ride it doing a kick flip onto one of the tables. The whole lunchroom goes wild looking at Matt carelessly ride. All of the girls swoon, whispering to their friends about his looks. I couldn't help but roll my eyes. I don't know what people see in Matt. I've known him since I was 7, when he used to come to my house to hang out with my brother. He always seemed like a douche to me, but I could tolerate him if I had to.
I snap out of my thoughts when the noise of the lunch lady almost busts my ear drums.
"MR. CHAMPION! GO DOWN TO THE MAIN OFFICE RIGHT NOW! AND GIVE ME THAT PIECE OF TRASH!" The lunch lady grabs the skateboard from his arms holding it tightly to her side.
Matt then jumped off the lunch table as everyone cheers for him, he drags himself to the doors to go to the main office, he flips off the lunch lady with a grin as he pushes open the doors. On his way out the door he looks towards my table. Tina was staring at him, captivated by his looks. His grin fades as he makes eye contact with me, but immediately the lunch lady pushes him out the cafeteria. All the noise calms down and everyone goes back to what they were doing.
What was that smug face he gave me? What an asshole.
I guess i'll see him at detention.
