"Olivia, you need to decide." My mother spoke, as she crossed her arms across her chest. I stepped away from Cynthia and sighed.

"I think you should know some stuff. See if you still want to treat me as someone you helped, not someone who still may need help." I spoke, and she rolled her eyes. I may not be her child, biologically, but all of her mannerisms have rubbed off on me. When we are annoyed and angry, we often roll our eyes and you better beware when it happens because it means we will also be ready to fight.

"You have everything you ever wanted!" She exclaimed, and I watched her with wide eyes.

"No, I don't." I sighed, before turning back to Cynthia.

"I hope that you can be so happy here. I'll see you at school, and after I get a few more of my items, everything up there is yours." I breathed, before hugging my friend again.

I started up the stairs, as I thought about how maybe this was just a chapter in my life. Maybe my parents are just a few characters that helped me for 11 years, but once I was ready to move on they'd give me that shove either intentionally or not.

In the next week, Elliot's parents had helped me move out of my parents' house completely. The only way I could stay with them, was if I made sure Elliot and I kept our grades up, and if I got a job so I'd be prepared for the future. They accepted me completely, and it was nice staying with them. Elliot and I grew even closer of the next few months before summer came, and it was so nice. Everyone was happy... even my parents.

I stood up from the large kitchen table, and I carried my plate and Elliot's plate to the sink before starting to fill it.

"Liv, what are you doing?" Bernie asked, from where she was finishing her dinner. It was only us three tonight, because either Elliot's siblings were in college, at practice, or at a friends house, and Elliot's father was still at work.

"I'm doing dishes?" I questioned, unsure of why she even asked the questioned.

"You don't have to do those sweetie. Elliot can." She spoke, and my boyfriend groaned as he leaned back in his chair.

"Mrs. Stabler, I got this. I know you said there were only two things I had to do to stay here, but I think I should help also. I am another mouth to feed, so if you'll let me I'd like to pick up some chores." I spoke, as I grabbed some dish soap and added some to the water.

"Elliot, she is too good for you boy!" Bernie exclaimed, and I looked over at my boyfriend, unsure of what his response to that would be, but he had a small smile on his lips and he nodded.

"She is way too good for me."

3 Months Later

Elliot and I finished our junior year of high school, and were preparing for senior year, finally. On the last day of school, Cynthia asked me over to my parents' house for dinner, and because they had some news they wanted to share with their 'girls'.

A month after I moved in with Elliot, my parents had held up their end of the bargain and payed for half of the price of a truck I had wanted, and that and the times I had to talk to them about my insurance payments were the only times I talked to my parents.

But since I left, I felt like we had a better relationship. We distanced ourselves from each other, and I didn't have to worry about them complaining about how I was always with Elliot, or if I had a bad attitude because they never saw me. It was sad to think I barely see my parents, but I guess it is for the better.

"I'll see you at home." I smiled, as Elliot and I stood next to his car. He looked over at my truck, where Cynthia was sitting and waiting for me, and he looked back at me.

"Don't do anything you'll regret, Liv. Don't let them get to you." He spoke, before leaning in and placing his lips to mine, kissing my lips softly.

"I won't El. I'm happy, and I won't let them mess that up." I smiled. Elliot pecked my lips before smirking.

"Most people can't say they were happy by the time they were 17." He whispered, and I nodded.

"But I'm a lucky one." I whispered back, before hugging him tightly.

"Liv, come on!" Cynthia exclaimed, and I laughed a bit before running to my truck.

I sat at my parents dinning table, as Cynthia talked to my parents about how great her last day was. She explained how she couldn't be happier about graduating next year and going to college. They kept smiling and looking at her the way they used to look at me.

"How was your day, Olivia?" My father asked, as he reached for his beer.

"It was good." I replied plainly. After only three months, I didn't even know how to address anything they said to me.

"Only good, bean?" My mother questioned, and I shrugged.

"I guess. It was school." I spoke quietly.

"So, Cynthia we have some news for you." My father spoke, wanting to get off the topic of school because they weren't getting the answers they wanted from me.

"Yeah?" She questioned, her dark brown eyes lighting up considerably.

"Yeah. We got the all clear to start the adoption process." My mother smiled, and I felt my throat tighten. I looked down at my plate, before feeling tears well in my eyes.

"Really? You are going to adopt me?" She questioned eagerly, and my parents smiled larger than I have ever seen them smile before.

"Yeah, I hope you are okay with that." My father grinned, and Cynthia didn't even wait.

"I'm so excited!" She exclaimed, as she stood and ran around the table to them. She hugged my parents tightly.

I excused myself from the table and went to the front door and started to gather my stuff.

"Liv?" My mother asked, as she walked out of the dinning room and towards me.

"Yeah?" I asked, as I quickly flicked the tears from my cheeks.

"Are you leaving already?" She asked, and I nodded.

"Yeah, I have work in the morning. I have to do some laundry so I can get  my uniform ready for tomorrow." I replied, as I took a slow breath and turned around to look at her.

"We are all really happy, Liv." She breathed, and I nodded slowly.

"Good for you three." I replied coldly.

"We'd be even happier if you came home. We can always get another bed and you could share Cynthia's room."

"My old room." I swallowed hard.

"Come on, come home Liv."

"I wouldn't want to screw anything up. I'm going to go home. Congrats on getting the all clear for her adoption." I spoke, before grabbing my purse and leaving. Tears running down my cheeks.
