"Is this seat taken?" I look up to see Nathan and Tony standing at our table.
What the actual fuck is happening?

Present.
Mia's POV
"Yes it is." I hear Naomi call out, Tony rolls his eyes "Okay baby girl. I'm just gonna take a seat and your gonna allow it" I see him sit down, then Nathan follows "why the hell are you here?" I ask. Nathan sighs "Something you said in the hallway. I normally don't do this but I'm sorry" I chuckle "really your sorry?. It doesn't just work like that. You put our 8 year friendship down the damn drain, you shut your best friend out for 2 whole years Nathan. Saying "I'm sorry" is not going to cut it. You turned into someone I wouldn't associate myself around, and if you think that you coming over here and apologizing to me will make everything okay, you are dead wrong. I've lost my appetite so I'm gonna go".
I stand up grab my lunch tray and make my way out.

Second time I've stood up to him today . Holy buckets it's a new record for me😂.

After School.
"Mia." I hear my name being called I turn to see Naomi running up to me "hey sorry about rushing out of the cafeteria like that , I just couldn't stay there any longer" she nods "Understandably. Well after you stormed out Tony started talking shit about your attitude but Nathan shut him up and then left. So I was left there with Tony, that sucked so much." I nod "well I'm glad I missed out on that". We make it to her car and head out.

"Mom I'm home" I say as I make myself inside my house, "in the kitchen dear. Come here" I slide off my shoes before I walk in there . My mom has her laptop set up and cook books which only means one thing . She's planning on making dinner not just for us.. but the Cox's.
It's a thing my mom does for Heather ever since her husband passed she would cook dinner for all of us and spend time together. This time around I'm not looking forward to it "Mom please don't tell me your making dinner tonight for us & the Cox family" she looks at me "I am. I just got off the phone with Heather and she had mentioned that Nathan told her that you & him were doing a history project together , so she thought we should have our annual dinner thing tonight and after you guys can work on your project"
I sigh "Mom please don't make me do this. I don't wanna go over there. I made it clear to Nathan that I could do the project myself so he wouldn't have to worry about talking to me" I see my mom shake her head "I get that your no longer friends with Nathan but don't act like this when it comes to school work, and your going to dinner tonight. And please be on your best behavior no snarky comments or being rude. I'm doing this for Heather so go get ready we are leaving in 20 minutes".

I make my way into my room. Before pulling out all my cute clothes, I sort them out and send pics to Naomi for help . (Outfit she chooses is above)
To Naomi:
I need help with something to wear to dinner.. I guess I have to make an appearance over at the Cox's to please my mom.

From Naomi:
Oh good luck 😬. Go with the black leggings, the Lacey crop top and white cardigan. Love ya
I reply with a "thanks love you too" I put on the clothes Naomi told me to choose then quickly put my hair into a high bun before I hear my mom call my name "time to go MIA"
Here we go.

After making it to the Cox's house, my mother rings the doorbell and then I see the door open to reveal Heather. She's wearing a nice long strapless blue gown with her hair straightened.
"Hello Sasha good to see you" they give each other a hug before we walk inside.

It's been about a year & a half since I've been inside there house. It hasn't changed one bit, "Nathan , Jaxon our guests are here come down". I sigh then look towards the staircase I see Jaxon slide down on his built in wheelchair accessible thing that he just sits in presses a button and he slides down the stair well just like if you were actually walking down them.
10 seconds later he makes it to the bottom before I see Nathan joining his side

"Hi Mia. I miss you around here how've you been?" Jaxon asks, when I was friends with Nathan we'd always make time to invite Jaxon to hang out with us, we'd take him to movies, the park, ice cream shop, or anything . He loved being around his big brother and we grew into really good friends, Jaxon looked up to me like a sister he never had.
I smile, before squatting down to give him a hug "I've been good. And I miss it too, especially because I've missed my partner in crime" we both laugh.
That was another thing we had in common , we both loved to tease and pick on Nathan whenever we could . We told each other we'd make the perfect crime partners on pranking people. So I always referred to Jaxon as my partner in crime.

"Let's eat". I look up to see Nathan starring at his mom , I can tell he's uncomfortable. Yeah I still know Nathan really well and can always tell when he gets irritated like right now. He's tapping his foot against the ground while he runs his hand through his hair .
Weird I know "Okay let's go" I hear Heather say we head into the dining area and begin our dinner . Which should be so much fun. Right ? Not at all.

"Well Sasha as ever the dinner was delicious you need to give me that recipe" I hear Heather say "anytime. I'll help you clean up so then the kids can chat" I look at my mom wide eyed. She can't be serious. They both stand up before going into the kitchen to start cleaning .
I see Jaxon start leaving "I got physical therapy in the morning. So I'm going to bed. Nice to see you again Mia hopefully you'll be around more"  I smile at him "maybe. Goodnight Jaxon"

After he leaves it leaves Nathan & I just sitting at the table. We just stare at each other until Heather comes in, "get up you guys. Go into the living room or something I need to wash the table". I stand up and walk into their hallway and see they added new pictures on the wall.
The one I recognize is all of us when both our families vacationed together the summer before our freshman year of high school. We had went to Hawaii and when we got to our hotel they layed us , then took our picture together . "That was a fun vacation until I got sick and puked on the boat when we all wanted to jet ski" I hear a voice say. Yep the downside to that trip with the night before we went jet skiing we went out to eat and Nathan got food poisoning, so the whole ride on the boat the next day he kept saying his stomach hurt. When we reached the place to head out in the water Nathan puked everywhere. So we had to bail and bring him back home.
"Yeah I missed out jet skiing for the first time by the way . Thanks" I snap at him "look Mia I understand you won't accept my apology but I truly am sorry. Not just for having to be your history partner but cutting you out of my life". I turn to him "Wow. Your actually being sincere why now?."
He rubs the back of his neck "Because you deserve it. I've changed into someone I never wanted to become, and you reached out but I never did anything or ask for help from my best friend. So for that I really am sorry I don't expect you to forgive me but I wanna let you know I want to help with this project . I don't want you doing the whole thing. Even if you won't work with me in the same room, I'll do my part and give it to you so you can do yours and that will be it . Then maybe some day we can actually be friends again".

Friends ?. I laugh "you wanna be friends again one day?. You say that now but once we go to school tomorrow or for the rest of the year you'll act like I don't exist you have been for the past year with your new friends you really don't need me. But I agree with the project thing you do your part I do mine by our selves and that's it". Nathan steps closer to me backing me against the wall "yes I do. They may be my friends but I miss us , our friendship every damn day and it's all my fault for ruining it. Don't shut me out like I did to you, I want you in my life again no matter what it takes to get there. Please Mi Mi" Mi Mi was my nickname Nathan gave to me that no one else could ever call me besides him.

"Don't call me Mi Mi. It's Mia, you can't just say that because if you really cared about your friendship and miss it so much you would have least tried to talk to me, I don't care if you didn't want to at school because you'd ruin your image in front of your friends but you had all last summer. I wanted to be there for you when your Dad passed but I guess you didn't need me".
I begin walking away but Nathan grabs my wrist pulling me close. I look at him to see tears building up . Is he actually going to cry ? Please Don't do this to me. When people are emotional that's my biggest weakness and Nathan knows that.
"Mia hunny. Time to go home"
