(This was a school project where we had to continue the story from an excerpt of the book)
Bob, the handsome Soc, was lying there in the moonlight, doubled up and still. A dark pool was growing from him, spreading slowly over the blue-white cement (p56). Then, he stood up staggering and pulled a gun out. He aimed and shot towards Johnny. I pushed him out of the way only to feel an aching pain in my side. My shirt was now stuck to my skin with blood matted in it. A dull pain came with the wound as I fell on my back. My ears picked up the muffled sound of Johnny's screams. Suddenly, my brothers came in my mind, causing me to pull myself back to reality and grasped Johnny's hand. He helped me up and kept me straight. At least he tried to until my movements caused me to fall into a world swallowed in darkness. That's how it stayed.
My mind awoke to a world cradled in darkness. I was awake, but I wasn't.
"Hey, Ponyboy," someone called out, but I couldn't see them.
"Soda, he can't hear you," Yes, I can! I wanted to yell at whoever said that.
"Darry," Soda and Darry? My brothers!
I heard slight movement and then Darry states, "I know Soda. All we can do is pray he wakes up."
"I miss him, Darry. Why won't he wake up?" His voice switched to one of a snake. Suddenly, I heard quick beats to my side.
"Soda, calm down. I think you're scaring Pony," A slight sigh came from Soda, I think. "Soda, I think he can hear us."
Next thing I know, I hear someone sobbing and words being whispered to them.
"It's okay," Darry says. Of course he's not crying over me. He wanted me gone! This is his fault. I think they ended up leaving because someone shut the door.
"Hey, Ponyboy. Long time no see. It's been a week," a week? It's felt like years.
Next, someone picks up my hand and grips it tightly. A pair of lips pressed themselves to my forehead.
"Pony, I'm sorry you have to hear this, but we had a rumble with the Socs. Cherry was a spy for us and she said they's play fair, but we just got played. They brought all sorts of weapons like heaters, pipes, blades, etc. Dally is in the room beside you with Two-Bit and Johnny. I only got a few scratches, but," his breathing hitches, and I become scared, "Sodapop was hit with a pipe. It knocked him out, yet they wouldn't stop hitting him. I'm so sorry. Soda's gone."
Today, someone came in and immediately took my hand.
"Ponyboy," Darry states then hiccups. A wetness hits my arm, and I realize he's crying. "I love you. I know it seems like I can't stand you, but I truly love you. That's why I'm doing this. Pony, I would love for you to wake up, but if you want to be with Soda, mom, and dad, then go. I'll be fine as long as I know I at least gave you the choice and made sure you knew I love you. I love you so much Ponyboy."
I mustered all the strength I had left and clutched Darry's hand which made him cry harder. Then, I let go.
My mind went to the gang, my brothers, and my parents. We lived in the country where everything seemed peaceful. I looked in the living room window to see Soda, mom, and dad. They wanted me to come inside. I walked to the door, placed my hand on the doorknob, and walked in.
