Chapter One ; Alayna

It’s been a month since my transformation. And today, is first day of senior year, meaning that freedom is almost here, for good. Thinking back now I can remember the night so perfectly.

The pack had told us that some rogues were on our territory. Our douche bag of alpha had to go away on “business.” Yeah right, he probably wanted to get away from Riverside because he had already messed around with all the easy girls here. It’s typical for him to be gone for months at a time, no one ever hearing from him until he reaches the border and we can hear him in our minds. He also leaves his beta to do all of his dirty work. Which leaves Hayden no time for other things, like being with his mate.

My stomach turned when the announcement was made. I probably just caught what Adalynn, my twin sister, had. My best friends, Dylan Summer, Kamren Chides and Skylar Bell started toward me asking if I wanted to go get frozen yogurt at the usual place. I felt the color drain from my face. I never usually passed up an opportunity to go out, the four of us without Jeff and Hayden, Sky and Dylan’s’ mates. All I know is that Hayden is a pretty good beta. I think he needs to be our alpha, but no Daniel is so stupid. He won’t hand him the power but he does all the work. I feel so sorry for his mate though whoever she may be.

My head felt like a sledgehammer had pierced my skull. “Alayna.. You look so pale, are you okay?” Kam asked.

“I probably caught whatever Addie had.” She woke up this morning sick as a dog, mom was home caring for her, but my father dragged me to the pack meeting. Something about ‘you need to learn what goes on with this pack.’ Technically I’m not part of this pack until I shift for the first time. Which I haven’t shown any signs of, so I’m not planning on that any time soon.

“Maybe I should take you home?” I agreed with Kamren. We drove in her silver Saturn, blasting ‘She’s country’ by Jason Aldean. My head still hurt but it was a tradition. I couldn’t break it. We sing like freaks no matter where we are. Once we were singing a song from The Little Mermaid walking to McDonalds. It was quite entertaining.

We finally reached the house and she cut the engine. I felt like I was going to pass out, die and throw up all at the same time. Sweat poured down my face and my heart beat was ragged and rapid. “Kam.” Her name shot out of my mouth as a scared whimper. What was happening to me?

She ran in the house calling for my mother. My muscles started convulsing as Kamren and my mom dragged me out of the car and into the backyard. “Kamren, why is she changing so quickly? Who should I call? What do I do? Adalynn is going at a much slower rate!” My mother became frantic as I realized I was shifting. I must be dreaming, I thought. But my pain level between 1 and 10 would have to be at 646. I could feel my bones growing, and moving.

A tail grew as I was forced onto all fours. I swear I heard some of my bones snap. I heard my clothing rip as I grew too large for them. I actually really liked those shorts. Now, instead of ripped, they’re shattered.

I heard everything, from my mother’s screams from help to a bird far in the sky. I could smell a rabbit being engulfed by an animal near the river. I saw everything in high definition like when you put on a pair of glasses that are too strong for you. Needless to say my senses were increased dramatically.

On all fours and taller than my mother. Not that that's really saying much but I was big. Very big. A low growl escaped my mouth as my mom looked at me realizing what I was going to become. The same thing fate destined Kamren to be. My sister actually took three more days then I did to change and she was angry about that. She still kind of is. In the back of everyone's mind we knew why I had changed so quickly.
