As we walk out the door he puts his arm around my shoulder and I smile leaning in to him. He kisses my head as we walk to the car, "You know one of these days I think I want to introduce you to my parents."
I tilt my head, "Really? It's not too soon for that?"
He shook his head, "No, I don't think so. I have been thinking about it for a while."
"We haven't been dating that long."
He opened the door, "I know, but you.... you're pretty perfect for me."
I laugh and give him a quick kiss, "That's pretty close to how I feel about you."
He gave me a long slow kiss, "I am really glad to hear that 'cause I really like you."
I laugh, "Good. That means I am special to someone.... it's been a while since someone thought I was special." My smile slipped off my face. I hadn't meant to say that, but it was true. Being an orphan that had more near death experiences than was socially acceptable lots of people didn't spend time around me.He wore a sad smile, "You have always been special to me."
--
"You do make me feel really special and you aren't freaked out by the fact that I seem to almost die on a daily basis."
He gave me a wry smile, "Yeah, trouble does seem to follow you around."
I laugh a little as I sit in the car, "You mean Death. He seems to follow me around."
He pauses for a second before tilting his head, "What do you mean Death follows you around?"
I wink, "Seems too much of a coincidence that I almost die all the time. Other people don't live their life this way, so I figure there really is someone out there."
I didn't want to tell him that I had seen Death on many occasions, scythe and all, trying to kill me. Ever since I started dating Rai, I had almost died everyday, but I wasn't seeing Death. I want sure if it was reassuring or disconcerting that he wasn't around. Did it mean these were just accidents and he had given up, or something else? Death had become one of the only constants in her life.
He laughed quietly, "Maybe."
I smile, "You never know."
He shut the door with a wink.
---
As he walked around to the other side of the car his thoughts were moving pretty quickly.
She knew he was real, but not only real she seemed to know how he was following her around. She didn't seem very afraid of that though. The thought made him smile.
---
As he sat down in the car she smiled at him, "So, how do you think I will almost die today?"
His ideas were always so funny and random. He always had at least ten ideas in every situation.
He laughed, "We are going to the movie and then dinner so..." His smile got mischievous. "Posion at dinner - intentional or accidental, accident on the way, shooting in the theatre, choking on popcorn or candy, or falling in the toilet, or-"
I laughed as his ideas got crazier, but at least half of those had happened before. Near death experiences didn't scare me anymore, but not knowing when they were coming or how severely they would effect me was... disconcerting.
He smiled as I stopped laughing, "Now which ones have you done before?"
I put my hand on his leg, "Thank you for not being freaked out by how many times I have almost died. It's been really nice."
His smile softened, "You're welcome."
He winked, "Now, which ones have you done?"
She smiled, "Poison accidental, car accident, drive byshooting when I was 15, and choking, but on steak."
"So you still have falling in a toilet." He said with a laugh.
"Now that is undignified." She said while getting out of the car. "Lets think of happier things than how I might die today."
He smiled and put his arm around her, "Sure thing, Gorgeous."
Though really her dying was a happy thing to him as then they could always be together, but he had to win her over first.
