“Violate Me”
Chapter One:
"I'll protect you from the world," He promises as he strokes my face. I involuntarily lean into his touch and I'm shocked at my own behavior. Lifting me off the floor, I'm placed on his lap after he sits down on the edge of my bed.
"It's about time you sleep, isn't it young one?" Colton sighs, tracing my jaw line with his index finger. I don't enjoy his new nickname for me and he sees that in my expression. Smiling softly, he lays me down on my bed and kisses my forehead.
"I will never understand you," He confesses before he stands up. His body becomes a dark shadow as he steps away from me, looking at me one last time before he throws himself out of my bedroom window. I was starting to believe he enjoyed putting himself in danger.
Time always passed too quickly when he was around. When I saw that it was nearly dawn, I decided I would just stay awake. Pushing myself off my bed, I flung myself towards my window, staring out into the dismal night. Luckily, I got the pleasure of watching him throw himself into the woods, his clothes tearing off his body as he shifted into his wolf.
I nearly purred at the sight. Colton’s dark beast unfortunately slipped away into the woods, and my chest felt heavier. It always felt lighter when he was around. My mind began to work up plans of how to get him to come back.
Normally he showed up every single night, but I wanted to see him during the day. He once had met me during the day, but that was because I accidentally hurt myself and the other time was when we first met.
As I descended down the stairs I listened. Dad would probably be in his study like usual; avoiding us. And Olivia, my older sister, was in the kitchen. I could hear her shuffling around and her voice ringing out. Mother must be in there with her.
I walk on my toes. I don’t know why, but I’ve always done it. When my feet touch the ground it’s silent and I like it that way. No one knows when to expect me or where I am.
So when I enter the kitchen, I surprise my mother. Olivia, on the other hand, is always prepared for something unexpected. She smiles at me and I grin back at my sister. Bending down, Olivia starts speaking to me like I am a child.
And to her, I was. Physically I looked six years old and mother never told her what I was. She had no idea that mentally, I was her age. So I go along with it; blushing and giggling like I was supposed to.
Mother was watching me. She did this often, just stared at me. I liked to ignore her, and it wasn’t hard. I wondered what she thought when she saw me. Did she think of the mistake she made years ago or did she see her daughter? Olivia lifts my curls off my shoulders, and starts to braid them. I don’t protest and let her create the beautiful French braid that she does to my hair every morning.
My eyes glide over the room trying to avoid mother’s heavy stare. And when I accidentally make eye contact, she nods her head over towards the calendar hanging on the wall.
At first I ignore her. I pretend that I didn’t see her do that because personally, I don’t want anything to do with her. She abandoned me when I was young, ignored and left me for Olivia to take care of. Now that I was older I saw no reason to forgive.
But when I finally gave in and looked at the calendar, I found myself turning back to my mother with widened eyes and a helpless expression. There is a big red star on today. It has been drawn on and had been on several other dates throughout the year—and it meant one thing.
