Maddie, is the name and I'm a blonde with silver piercing blue eyes, I'm about 5'3, and was walking next door with my family to join the new neighbors for dinner. My parents met them yesterday while I was at a friends house. We were bringing a red velvet cake with blueberries and strawberries in the middle for desert. As we were walking up the porch steps we got about half way to the door a woman had come out to greet us. I stood beside my parents as they exchanged hugs and hand shakes while I stood there quite awkwardly. My dad laid a hand on my shoulder as he introduced me to the lady standing in front of me.
"Maddie, this is Michele Mahone." I looked up at the lady with a wide smile on her face. She looked about mid-thirties or early forties. with brown shoulder length hair with a reddish tent to it.She stretched out her hand for me to shake, and I gladly took it.
"Nice to meet you Maddie. I have a son about your age he's inside," She looked back up at my parents " I didn't know you had a daughter." My mom looked up at her and explained that I had been with a friend when they had first met.
We walked inside and entered this beautifully decorated kitchen, that carried a mouth watering smell from the table. As I was walking to the table I didn't notice the boy standing in front of me, until I accidentally ran into him. I looked up at a boy with brown hair and hazel eyes that were extremely captivating.
"I'm sorry I should have been paying attention to where I was going.."
He smiled and chuckled at me, "It's fine. What's your name?" I returned the smile
"Maddie," I turned to see what where my parents had gone because i couldn't hear them talking any more but they weren't there.
"Hi Maddie, I'm Austin"
"Hi." I looked down at the ground shyly.
"I''m sixteen, how old are you?" He smiled.
"I'm fifteen, Wow your tall for a sixteen year old."
He laughed," Nah, your just short for a fifteen year old." Here we go with the short jokes. I have as always been picked on for being on the shorter side.
"Haha. Very funny." I said sarcastically and sticking my tounge out at him. He laughed at how childish I was being but he stuck his out at me to.
My parents had walked in with Michele at that time, I sighed not wanting our conversation to end. We gathered around the table, just as i was about to sit Austin patted the seat next him motioning me to sit beside him. I smiled and walked around the table and did just that. He turned and smiled at me, I turned my head towards him and smiled while getting lost in eyes.
I had brought my cell phone with me figuring I would be bored to death, but as we were eating I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket I took it out to see who had texted me.It was my best friend Whitney, also known as Weinie, her little brother had called her that since he couldn't say her name and it just kind of stuck.
"Hey, how are the new neighbors?"I had told her the night before that my parents and I had been invited to eat dinner with the neighbors.
I kept my phone under the table so know one would know, because my parents think it's rude to have your phone out at the dinner table especially when there is company.
"Great! There is A guy about our age and his names Austin." I replied and put my phone between my legs so I could get it back out easily when she texts back.
"OMG! IS HE HOT?!" typical Whitney, always wanting to know if the guys I meet are hot or not, even though she has a boyfriend.
"Uhm.. I guess." I laughed quietly to myself but apparently not quiet enough, because Austin turned to me and gave me a confused look. i pointed to my phone and he nodded as if he knew what I was talking about, he turned and reached in his pocket and took his phone out. He started typing on his phone so I took it that he was texting someone, so I turned back to my phone to press send. I felt a tap on my leg and looked at Austin, he was holding his phone out to me. I looked down and he had gone to his contacts to add a new contact, basically asking for my number. I took his phone put in my name and number, then handed it back to him.I looked up to start eating again glad my parents were to caught up in their conversation to have noticed anything.
I felt my phone vibrate again i looked down to see a number I didnt recognize i opened it to see what it said.
"Thanks :)"
I looked up at Austin to see him smiling at me, I looked back at my phone and saved his number. I texted him back,
"Welcome :)"
I ate my last bite of cake and I was full, I asked Austin what to do with my plate and he didn't say anything he took both of our plates and walked out of the room. A few minutes later he walked back in, and motioned me to follow him.
"I can take care of my own plate you know?"
"I'm sure you could but your my guest, my mom has taught me better than that."
I just laughed.
"Want to play some basketball?" He asked.
"Sure, sounds fun!" I really do like basket ball, I played for my school team last year.
He grabbed the ball and I stood in front of him to try and block his shot which didn't really do any good considering the height difference. He acted like was going to do a fake pass and jumped to shoot, I jumped the same time he did making my finger tip the ball just enough to miss the basket and roll off the rim.
"Nice, you play basketball?" He asked slightly amused.
"I played last year for my school. Speaking of school shouldn't your mom be registrating at the high school?" I asked giving him a confused look.
"No, I'm homeschooled" He threw the ball to me telling me its my turn to shoot.
"Oh." I threw the ball up and missed, oh well you dont always make it.
"What?"
"What?" I looked at him trying to cover my dissapointment.
"You said 'Oh" like you were dissapointed that I wasnt going."
"I just met you, and hardly know anything about you, nt to be mean but why would I be dissapointed?" He looked a little hurt when I said that but quickly recovered.
"Because of my charming good looks" He smirked.
I scoffed, "Wow. Cocky much?" He frowned and then we both started laughing.
