Scarlett's POV
"Miss Wayne? Your father says it is time to get up!"
I groaned and rolled over at the sound of my name. Mondays were the worst! I looked at the time.
"6:00! I swear he is getting me up earlier everyday on purpose!" I huffed.
I rolled over onto my back and put my pillow over my eyes. Some people say I'm the most beautiful girl in Gotham but they have yet to see my morning look. I'll describe it: Two Words = Not Nice!
"Miss Wayne?" I heard my butler, Alfred, call.
"Yes! It okay, I'm awake!" I replied to signal I was up and he could get back to whatever work he was doing before.
I slid off my bed and flung open my curtains. The light shone through the window, filling the room with faded light. The light, however, blinded me. Making me cover my eyes on instinct.
I walked over to my wardrobe a picked out a simple outfit for school: a simple, white lace blouse, tight, mint jeans, a navy blue blazer and a pair of gold ballet pumps. I set them out on my bed and went to get a quick shower.
I washed my body over first then began to battle the endless knots in my long blonde hair. Most people are confused as to why I have dirty blonde hair when my father's hair is a dark brown but he just says it was my mother's hair colour and then it's settled. I never knew my mother. Apparently she died in childbirth. I wish I could have known her.
Once I was finished ratting my hair out, I dried my self off and started to brush the matty thing.
"I think a messy braid will do for today," I muttered to myself as I began plaiting.
"Scar?" My dad called from downstairs. "Are you done yet?"
"Almost dad," I yelled back. "Just give me five more minutes!"
I quickly slid my blouse over my head and pulled my jeans over my butt. I then pulled my jacket on and forced my feet into my tiny shoes. I ran past my mirror then hesitated. I walked backwards just to do a quick bit of makeup.
I don't tend to wear loads of makeup unless it's a party or something like that but I do like a bit of mascara, blush and a small amount of red lipstick. I also like a teensy, weensy little bit of Chanel! Hey! I'm a 16 year old girl, you can't blame me. I'm also the daughter of a billionaire! I may not like it, however, but he spoils me rotten.
Once satisfied with myself, I ran downstairs picked up my bag and skidded into the room where my father sat waiting, reading the paper.
"Ready!" I declared as I gave him a quick twirl.
"Let's go then!" Dad said, picking up his car keys and walking out of the front door.
I followed suit then ran up to Alfred.
"Bye Alfred," I said, pecking him on the cheek. "I'll see you after school."
"Goodbye Miss Wayne, have a good day!" He replied with a big smile on his face. That's why I love Alfred; he's always smiling.
"I will, don't you worry!" I said cheerily.
I walked to the car and sat in the passenger seat. Dad started driving. But, once sensing the awkward silence, put on the radio. The news automatically came on.
"It's just been reported that the infamous Joker, Master of chaos and destruction, has indeed escaped Arkham Asylum!" The news reporter said.
My ears perked up at this and my dad discreetly turned up the volume. The Joker breaking out was very bad news for him. For all of us in fact!
I knew he was Batman. I knew it years ago. Honestly, if you lived with a man who went out every night for no god damn reason, you'll get a bit curious. The cave wasn't so hard to find, neither was the suit or the car actually. Bruce admitted it to me; rather embarrassed that I had discovered his 'oh so secret lair' and rummaged through it. He's just annoyed that I outsmarted him. Luckily, he forgot it after a while though. He's taken a break from crime but now the Joker's out, I think we'll need good ol' Batsy back.
The reporter continued.
"He was seen fleeing the building with 6 other men, all patients at the asylum, wearing clown masks. We strongly advise you all to stay in your homes at night and not to go out alone and unprepared if you do. By the time this broadcast has been made, the Joker may well be in Gotham. The police department are trying their best to locate him but there is no luck yet. If this advances any more, Gotham will have a turn for the worst. We will keep you updated. Have a good day citizens of Gotham."
I gulped slightly and leaned back into my chair. I looked at my dad from the corner of my eye. I took a few deep breaths and turned to look at him, face on.
"Dad?" I asked quietly.
He glanced at me.
"Yes sweetie?" He said, a hint of concern in his voice.
I looked down at my hands and shook my head.
"Do you think the Joker will attack?"
He looked me straight in the eyes and bit his lip.
"I don't know baby but if he does, I'll protect you. I promise." He said reassuringly.
I blinked slowly and sighed. I didn't want to ask but I knew I had too.
"You or Batman?"
He took a sharp intake of breath at that and then said nothing. Only pop music filled the car from then on and I deeply regretted asking the question now. We pulled up at my school gates.
"Dad? I'm..." I started, looking quite solemn.
He interrupted me. "Have a good day at school Hun."
He kissed me tenderly on the cheek than unlocked the door for me. I stepped out and he drove off quickly.
I sighed once again. I knew that Batman was a sensitive part of him and he wasn't very open about it but, if the Joker does attack, it's not I who will need him most. It's Gotham. They needed him. They needed Batman.
