" Janelle Charine Walker you'd better get ready for school or you'll be late " shouted my mum from downstairs in the kitchen.
I hated it when she called me by my full name .
I took a shower and put on some jeans and crop top and my Vans.
I let my blonde hair fall just over my shoulder .

I went down the stairs two at the time and sat at the table to eat.
"Hey mom" I said
"Hello darling " she replied wearily
My mind instinctively shifted to..
Foood.
I'm a foodie so...
I had my mouth stuffed with pancakes when I looked up and saw my mother with a huge bruise across her cheek.

Okay a little history
My mother and dad used to be so
close we were like the model family
Then my dad got laid off from work
My mother was more of a housewife so we were hit with serious financial problems
You know how in most normal houses there are framed pictures and stuff on the wall but in my house the only framed images were overdue bills .
Well..my father took up drinking after that ,smoking and became abusive .
He came home late most of the time and was always hitting my mum.

I don't like talking about this much because I'm very emotional and I am in a good mood today

I did the dishes when I was done gave my mother a kiss on the cheek and left for school.

"Guuurllll wait up " shouted someone
I knew it could only be my best friend Serena
She's black and very pretty .She's like a Serena Williams ( yeah I know her name too ) but without the muscles and stuff you know ..ha
Im kinda jealous of her body you know she's those kind of girls that boys stop playing Fortnite for and be like she thiccc .
She was wearing an African print off shoulder top and jeans .

She was really proud of her African heritage and I envied her for that.

"Wassup hoe " she said
I rolled my eyes at how she called me and replied "thinking of how to strangle you "

She said "Aww babe love you too "
I just smiled
We then took a bus to school

Okay Serena and I go to Hamilton High a public school in our neighborhood.

Well I live in a uh.. a pretty much bad neighborhood
You know with gangs ,graffiti gunfights and drugs .
"Have you got your pocket knife with you " was what my mother used to say almost every day to me when I was in middle school before I left . Weird huh ?

Back to reality .
"Serena and I stood we our backs against our lockers rating the boys which passed by

"No way gurlll he's a 9 " said Serena

"Meh at best six and a half" I replied

"Now that's a 10 " I purred

"Hoe " Serena said and rolled her eyes

We both went opposite ways for our lessons when the bell rang

To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and ...

This was the last I heard when
my mind wandered off as my Literature teacher kept talking

Miss Walker care to tell us who this poem is centered on?? said the teacher

But of course I didn't hear him
And immediately blurted out "To be or not to be"

Everyone immediately burst out laughing I just felt like disappearing

Luckily the class ended after about twenty minutes

I run quickly out of the classroom because I wasnt ready to face more teasing

I checked my phone and I saw a message from Serena
