The Boy in the Basement

She arrived at the orphanage and she was crying, her features confirmed that for me. I enjoyed seeing her like this, in pain. I'm the reason she's crying, but she's mine. No one can take her from me. She filled out her application form and was put up for adoption. The lady of the house introduced her to the other children.

"This is Max, Phabien, Casey, Julie and Patrick." She sighed as she pointed out the children. She looked around, confused by something. "There's usually two more but -" she was cut off by two boys running in and puffing.

"Sorry Mads." The blonde hair, green eyes boy spoke.

"Won't happen again." Said the boy with black hair and blue eyes. The old woman sighed.

"And this is Cameron and Silvester." She walked off shaking her head and sighing deeply.

"Hello Silvester!" She said cheerily. "Why are you here?" she was trying so hard to stay positive, it disgusted me.

"You don't need to know you nosy girl!" He yelled. She looked stunned.

"Rude." She muttered to herself.

"Sorry about him, he just takes a little while to warm up to knew people. He doesn't like talking about his past though." The Cameron boy said.

"Well that makes sense." She said while brushing herself off. "Why are you here?"

"My brother was a bully. He abused me for a large portion of my life; parents didn't care so I ran away." He said while looking off into the distance.

"Oh that's terrible!" She gasped. "My dad abused me, so I know how you feel." She shook her head.

"Can you keep a secret?" He asked her.

"Of course I can!" She exclaimed. They walked off outside towards the bushes. They arrived at a large tree with a hole down the bottom.

"Just jump." He said simply before jumping down the hole. She followed him down and a few minutes later they came back with a small puppy.

"This is Peta. She's a husky. Aren't you, my baby." He cooed to the small dog.

"She's adorable." She petted the small dog. The dog started sniffing the air before barking in my direction. Silvester and the house woman came running outside.

"A dog!" She yelled. "I cant take this anymore. Get out of my Orphanage! All three of you!" Marian, Silvester and Cameron all looked shocked. They grabbed the puppy and shuffled out of the orphanage. Phase one handled itself... time for phase two. I phoned a random number and chuckled to myself.

"Hello?" A woman answered the phone.

"Hello quick question survey: 1. Are you married? 2. Do you have children? And 3.Where do you live?" I asked her.

"Um... yes, no and I'm calling the police." She whispered.

"Do that and I'll kill all your loved ones." I answered.

"Okay, I live in Bradford, England." She whimpered.

"Good! Now take all your belonging and move them to 25 Salen St, then go to Jonathan State Orphanage and search around that area for three children. Tell then you're adopting them. Take them back to the house and live there from now on. Say nothing to the children. Once everything falls into place, well... I'll see you then." I hung up the phone and dialled a much missed friend.

"Serena! Oh how I've missed you." I laughed.

"Joseph." She mumbled. "What do you want?"

"I need you to conjure a ghost." I stated.

"Ok, but this is the last job." She yelled. I hung up the phone and drove to the house. I made my way down to the basement, opened the trap door and entered my lair. I sat and watched the TV monitors positioned at every point in the house. I saw Serena enter the house and I pressed the microphone.

"In the basement." I said, I startled her but she continued to make her way down to the basement. She gasped as she saw the dead 16 year old boy on my floor.

"This is Damien. He tried to run from me, but you can't run... from me at least." I told her. "Now, conjure his ghost and have him haunt the children." She brought out some already mixed ingredients and blew them on the body. She muttered a spell and there was a flash of light before the ghost floated out of his body... then he was gone.

"It's done." And with that, she was gone. I went back to my lair and waited.

Not too long after, they arrived.

"Wow!" they all said in unison.

"Pick your rooms upstairs." They all ran upstairs and picked their bedrooms. After and hour they decided to go to sleep, so Damien decided to make an appearance. The children wandered out to the hallway and saw the ghost.

"Ghosts are just lost souls trying to find help." Said Silvester.

They followed the ghost down to the basement and noticed the body.

"The poor man!" Gasped Marian.

"It must have been murder!" Cameron said angrily.

"Well, it's our new parents' house so let's ask them." Said Silvester.

In the morning, they questioned the parents. They were going to crack, so I decided to be creative and I disposed of them and left a message on the wall. It read, "Whoops! They're dead and I'm coming for you next!"

"Who would do such a thing?" Silvester asked.

"I'm not sure, but it's creepy." Cameron shivered.

I stood in the doorway smirking at them, while they turned around. Time for phase three. I ran out the door and they followed. I led them to my next trap. I led them into a room and locked them in. I started the timer and gave them four minutes to get out before a poisonous gas would be released. They struggled, fought and screamed in an attempt to get out. Ten seconds left on the clock, Marian started to cry. She slid down the wall and it pushed open. They all ran out as the poisonous gas was being released. It was my turn to shine now. I barged through the front door.

"Are you OK?" I screamed. "I heard screaming!"

Marian froze and I almost laughed at her.

"Dad?" She whispered.

She went pale with fright.

"Did you like the show?" I said.

"You planned all this?" She asked.

"Yes, I just wanted to have little fun before I took you back. COME WITH ME!" I yelled.

"NO!" She screamed.

"Well then," I said, "The good girl's gotta die."

I brought out my knife and lunged for her. She was pulled back by Cameron and I only stabbed her in the leg. She wailed in pain. I could feel her pain as though it were my own... only to find that it was my own; Silvester had stabbed me in the back. Marian fainted into Cameron's arms.

"It's all over now." Cameron whispered into her ear.

"Freeze!" Yelled the man at the door. "You all have to be evacuated due to the fact that the German army is currently bombing our city."

They were running out the door when a camera crew appeared out of nowhere and shouted "Smile! You've just been punked!"
