After Jungkook's successful attempt at cheering you up, the car ride to your house continued with a happier you. Rather than looking out the window and brooding, you had a slight smile on your lips as Jungkook's story kept flashing through your mind. Aside from the fact that you thought his story was hilarious, you also appreciated that he had been trying to make you feel better.

"You can just pull up on the driveway," you told Jungkook as he was getting closer to your house.

When the car was parked, Jungkook turned to you and placed a hand on your forearm, stopping you from exiting the vehicle. "Hold on, I'll come around and help you."

You were about to tell him jokingly that you weren't crippled but Jungkook was already out the door and running around to the passenger side. When he opened your door, you accepted his outstretched hand and allowed him to help you out of the car.

"Next are you going to tell me I should amputate my leg?" you asked with a chuckle.

Jungkook shrugged as he helped you walk, still holding your hand with one of his own while wrapping his other around your waist. "Whatever you wish, milady."

"Wow, and now I'm royalty?"

"Shall I have the servants prepare dinner to be served in bed?"

You let out a light, airy laugh before clearing your throat and speaking in your best British accent, "please do so, lowly peasant."

"Whoa, I didn't agree to be your peasant, missy. I was going for the whole, y'know, royal guard role or something," Jungkook said, breaking out of his character.

You heard the sound of a door being flung open and looked up to see your mother standing on the porch with a look of horror on her face.

"Hey m—"

"Get your hands off of my daughter!" your mother bellowed the order.

Jungkook's hands left you so fast you had to check beside you to make sure he didn't vanish into thin air. The boy standing next to you look like he'd seen a ghost; pale skin and eyes so wide you thought they'd pop out of his head. You wouldn't be surprised if he was mentally planning his escape route.

"Mom, what the hell are you doing?" you frowned, taking a defensive step in front of a Jungkook as if to protect your friend.

"Stay away from him!" she yelled before gripping onto your arm and tugging you into her arms. "Oh my poor baby, are you hurt? Did he do something? Why are you limping?"

You had to bite your tongue to stop yourself from snapping. So this is why she's acting like this?

"Jungkook has nothing to do with it. I'm an idiot and rolled my ankle," you replied, glancing at Jungkook before staring back at your mother with narrowed eyes. "Why are you jumping to conclusions and blaming the guy that's been helping me?"

"I...I don't know. I guess it's just my protective instincts taking over me," she said with a sorrowful look in her eyes. "The only man I truly trust you with is Devon, you know that. I'm sorry, but I just don't know Jungkook that well and couldn't stop my mind from assuming he did this to you."

"Well maybe you should get to know him then," you said lowly. Anger flashed through your mother's eyes and her grip on your arms tightened.

"Watch your tone there, young lady," she warned.

"I will when you stop acting like Devon is some savior of mine, 'cause he's not," you countered. You turned around to face Jungkook and gave a tight-lipped smile. "Thank you so much for helping me. You should probably leave before my mom makes it more awkward for you."
