âDarwin!â I called, setting the beaded curtain aside to walk through.
The small cottage was surrounded by a large forest that was close to the city, but was invisible to both the human eye and any intruders or enemies. Only those of us who are Darwinâs allies may pass, me being one of them.
The walls were coated in forest greens with two orange and black couches, both pushed up against the wall. The emerald green cushions were spread along the leather couches and a small bonsai tree was settled in the middle of the pine coffee table that idled over the tea stained rug.
Darwin had always been a nuisance when I was a child but in some way he was family. He was like an older brother or a father figure. More than the masochistic son of a bitch Iâm chasing anyway.
An exasperated sigh came from behind me.
I whirled around to see the blond haired man in front of me with a frown plastered upon his face.
âCome on, lay it on me.â He sighed, his jaw jutted out in annoyance whilst his hands were clenched in his trouser pockets.
âWhy whatever would you mean?â I asked innocently. I widened my eyes only slightly and raised my eyebrows, hoping to look guilt-free. But a smirk still hung upon my face.
Darwin arched his eyebrow upward. âNo?â He asked, amusement laced in his tone.
âIf I recall correctly,â He continued, âThe last time you came, you got your memory wiped by your ex-girlfriend, and the time before that you almost got your ass kicked by a shadow hunter so you came to me for fighting skills so you can go hunting for them yourself. And the-â.
âOkay!â I shouted in frustration. âI get it ok, jeez.â I gritted my teeth for what I next had to say. âYour right. I need your help.â
He smirked. âI told you soâ written all over his face. He crossed his muscular arms over his black t-shirt, emphasizing his strength in the proses. Â
âWhatever.â The smile vanished from my face and my expression grew serious. âI need to know how to track someone.â
âWho?â A frown pinched his forehead.
âMy father. My real father that is. Apparently heâs the in-famous Jack the ripperâ€Â¦.. I had a lead on this ages back but thought nothing of it. And now hunters are after him and a couple of them captured me, thinking I was my father.†I paused. A sigh of disappointment passing through my lips. “Guess it’s confirmed then. So I need to track him, any idea how to?â€Â
“You’re kidding right? I’m one of the most powerful warlocks and I’m part demon, and I’m your mentor. Of course I know how to track him.†He rolled his eyes.
“No need for the emphasis Darwin.†His boasting was grating on my nerves. I waited. “Well?â€Â
