"C'mon, Petal! It's only two blocks!" Daniel whined desperately.
I huffed.
"Yeah. Two blocks. Danny, it's about to start pouring, and you know how competitive you get at the arcade."
I rolled my eyes as I caught up to him.
He grabbed my hand, pulling me around the corner.
"Well, you're coming wether you like it or not." Daniel continued to hold my hand as we walked towards the arcade.
No, we're not dating. We're best friends.

» Arcade, «
"I let you win!"
"Yeah, yeah. You just have two left feet." I laughed.
We had just finished our fifth round of Dance Dance revelation.
I won every round.
He rolled his eyes and sighed.
"We should head home. Do you want to spend the night at my house?"
Daniel nodded, still mad.
I nudged him in the side, smirking.
"You're such a sore loser."
He pushed me away with his hand.
Something was off about him..
"You okay, Danny?"
He nodded.
"Tell me the truth, Danny~wanny."
I knew that made him laugh.
"Let's just head back to your place." He growled, his voice gruff.
I breathed in as we left the doors.
Walking in silence, we we're about to cross one of the streets as Daniel stared up at the sky.
"Full moon.." He whispered.
I looked up.
"Yeah--"
I felt a hand shove me backwards.
then there was a car horn, and a thump.
"DANNY!" I screamed out. The car sped on as he laid motionless in the road.
I ran out, tears falling down my face. I fell to my knees next to him.
"Danny!" I yelled, shaking him.
One of the neighbors must have noticed, because after a few minutes, sirens sounded.

And then I woke up at home.
I was sweating, my breathing heavy.
"It... Was just a dream? Then.. Danny should still.."
I got up, heading out into the living room.
"Danny?" She called out, her voice shaky.
No...
It.. it was a nightmare...
I looked over as my phone vibrated on the kitchen table.

Sam:
Hey, I heard about what happened to Danny... I knew he was your best friend.
I dropped my phone.
And started crying.
It wasn't a dream.
Danny was gone.
He was really gone.
Sam: Any idea why he would leave the hospital after being patched up?
...
Petal?
I read the messages. He wasn't dead, but he was missing.
"It's my fault.."
I whispered, wiping my face.
"All my fault.. it should've been me.. it..."
The front door opened.
"Petal?"
I flung my arms around him.
"Woah, calm down." Jack laughed.
This is Jack, my best friend since pre-school.
"I have some things to tell you about Dan.."
I froze.
"Let's go down to the spot. You get ready, and I'll meet you there, okay? And bring your swimsuit!" He smiled as he shut the door.

» The 'Spot' «
I sat down on a mossy log as I waited for Jack.
The spot is awesome.
It's this little clearing in the middle of the forest, just walking distance from the lake.
I felt a weight shift on the log next to me.
"Hey." Jack smiled.
"Hi-- Whaaaaaaat is that?!" I sqeauked out.
Right next to Jack, sat a pitch black... Wolf? It was massive, staring at me with a piercing amber stare.
"It's--"
The wolf growled at Jack.
"My.. dog, Obsidian."
"That's one huge ass dog."
"Yeah..."
The 'dog' sniffed my hand.
"Aw. But he is really cute." I smiled, petting Obsidian's head. His tounge lolled out of his mouth as his tail wagged.
"He likes you!" Jack laughed.
Obsidian put his front paws on my thighs as he licked my cheek.
"Yep, he's a sweetheart."
Obsidian glared at him.
I giggled softly and kissed the wolf's head.
"He's such a fluffer."
Jack snorted, holding in a laugh.
"What's so funny?"
Jack smiled.
"You'll see tonight. Hey, can we spend the night at your place? I brought my truck."
"Yeah, of course!"
Jack nodded.
"So, do you wanna go swimming?"
I nodded.
We both had our swimsuits under our clothes, so Jack took his shirt off.
Obsidian looked away, embarrassed? As I pulled my hoodie off.
We headed to the lake.
"Cannonball!" Jack yelled as he jumped into the water.
I closed my eyes as the spray splashed my face.
I walked over to the waters edge and sat, Obsidian next to me.
Sitting down, the wolf was taller than me.
I scratched his shoulder.
"You're so cute."
The male wolf tilted his head as he stood on his hind paws, attaching himself to my side.
I sqeauked and backed away, my face red.
"What happened?" Jack asked, his head popping out of the water.
"Obsidian just tried hump me!" I stared at him.
Jack began laughing.
"Must be mating season."
"It's not funny!"
I threw a small rock at Jack. He went under, it flying past where his head was.
A large hand grabbed my ankle and dragged me into the water.
"Jack!"

» Home «
I was sitting on the couch, petting Obsidian.
Jack decided to take a shower, complaining about why I had so many shampoos and conditioners.
"There's only two, and i don't use a bottle of three in one, okay?" I smiled before he rolled his eyes and shut the door.
Obsidian sniffed at my hand, nuzzling my sleeve up. I yanked my arm away as he licked my wrists, the fresh cuts stinging a bit.
He barked at me.
Something about the wolf just reminded me of Danny.. the way he acted.
Speaking of Daniel, I had managed to painfully force him out of mind until now.
Tears unknowingly fell down my cheeks.
Obsidian whined and licked them away.
"I'm going to bed." I patted his head, saying loud enough for Jack to hear me.
I leaved my room door cracked as I curled into a ball.
I heard a creak and a weight by my feet, then a snout nuzzling my leg.
I smiled as I slowly drifted into sleep.
