" Chres, we got another buyer." i said cutting up the coke. He nodded and pulled out a baggie already made. We had alot of buyers today. Most of these drug addicts be fiending so much that they be buying a couple of bags per day, but i aint complaining. As long as i got enough money to help mama with the bills and go shopping for food im good.

" U can leave Amelia. I'll take over tonight" Dion said from the kitchen.

"Aight. Bye yall" i said stuffing my money in my backpack. I drove home in my new baby i bought this week.

The lights were still on in my house, so i figured my mom was still awake waiting for me to come home. She knows about the drugs and the killings. She actually kicked me out for 2 months but let me back in after she realized that's how i pay the bills and put food on the table that her job dont put in dent in. My dad took care of us but when he was killed last year, just trying to get milk from the grocery store. I started working at a restaurant until Chres told me about how i can make more money, and from then it was history.

" Hey baby" my mom greeted me. She was bundled up in a plush blanket watching t.v.

"Hey ma" i said walking into the kitchen getting some strawberry ice cream from the fridge.

" Imma be gone next week for a job interview in New Jersey, I'm trying to move us outta here."

" I'm not leaving." i said shaking my head. I wish she would have told me this earlier. But either way it wouldn't have mattered. I would still say no. How would the boys react to me moving? I cant leave the gang.

"Yes, you are. Sheila was just telling me the other day how bad its been getting. People get killed here almost everyday because of foolishness. I don't want you To get killed or hurt out in these streets." she said.

" You don't have to worry about me! I've been protecting myself for the longest out here. Ain't nobody going to come up on me, they know better." i said.

You don't know how many times i hear that coming from her. I understand that our neighborhood is bad but i cant leave something i've lived in all my life.

I've seen so many people die in these streets that it don't phase me anymore, sadly.

While i was dealing with my momma and this moving situation, Chres was dealing with his own problems at home.

" Get the fuck out of my house!!" Chres's father spat, throwing his brother out of the house. This was the 3rd time this week he was kicked out and usually he would spend it at his girlfriend's house.

" I aint coming back this time, so dont call my phone! Fuck you" his brother screamed. He got in his truck and sped off into the night, while Chresanto watched thru his window. Chresanto's brother Lorenz had always been his mentor and even though his toughness he wanted to cry inside but he couldnt. Lorenz taught him everything he knew when it came to drugs. Chresanto never had someone to teach him the right path so following in his brother's footsteps seemed like the right thing to do.

As his father slammed his bedroom door, Chresanto laid across his bed contemplating if he should call me or not. He needed someone to talk to but he didn't want to bother me with his problems all the time. He finally decided to pick up his number and dial my number.

"Hey Chres" i said tiredly.

"Sorry for waking u up, but i was wondering if i could come over?" he said.

" Sure." i said. I'm used to him coming over all types of nights. He usually only does it when something happened at his house, so i don't mind.

A couple of minutes later he showed up at my door with a t-shirt, basketball shorts and a night duffel bag. I let him into my room, grabbing another comforter and pillow for him.

"Goodnight" he said climbing into the bed with me. I cut off the lamp light on my nightstand and fell asleep.
