I stood outside Carson's house. The sun was beating down on me. My thoughts were running everywhere. I couldn't get them to stop. I begin to walk to the front door, each step causing me to feel sick. I knock and the door answers quickly.
"Hello." Carson's father says.
"Hello Mr Woodridge."
"Carson isn't here."
I shake my head slowly. "I know."
He looks me up and down and I try to hold back the tears welling up in my eyes.
"I just wanted to know if you were all okay."
Mr Woodridge nodded as his arms were crossed. "We're okay, kid."
"I'm really sorry." I whisper.
Carson's dad shakes his head. "You wanna come in?"
I nod and he leads me inside to the kitchen. He gestures for me to take a seat. Mr Woodridge goes through the refrigerator and pulls out a can of lemonade.
"This is good on a day like this." He smiles. "Carson drinks a lot of these."
"She does?"
"We had to hide them from her, but, she eventually found them."
"She's a smart girl." I laugh as I sip the drink.
Mr Woodridge rubbed his forehead. "You wouldn't know where she is would you?"
I place down the can and I look down. "I wish I did."
"I don't know why she did this. I just wish she would talk to me."
"She never really talked to anyone." I state sadly. "If there was something wrong, she would brush it off."
"And I don't know where she got that from." He sighs.
"She'll come home." I say with hope in my voice. "She has to come home."
