I sat at my usual table in the lunchroom waiting for more people to arrive at school.
My best friend Pheobe, who also happened to be co-captain along with me of the Louisville High Lions cheerleading squad, had been bent on coming to school at such an ungodly hour this morning, but had soon disappeared saying that she had to talk to a teacher about an assignment. But I soon after saw Tyler, my ex-boyfriend and captain of the football team get up from his table and follow her. I had the sneaking suspicion that they were hooking up and even though I should have been mad, I wasn't.
Me and Tyler had left things on good terms and didn't have any of that ex drama other people had.
I pulled my gaze away from him and looked around the lunchroom at the few other people in it. There was only two other people in here with me. Giselle, class valedictorian and probably the nerdiest girl to ever go to Louisville high and Cole, he was a broody loner type guy who always had his earbuds in.
I turned back around in my seat and took out my phone. I absently scrolled through my Instagram, Facebook, and twitter. When I was finished I turned my phone off and rested my head on the table, hoping to get a few extra minutes of sleep. Before I even finished getting comfortable, there was a loud bang.
I quickly swiveled around in my seat and saw Giselle with a sheepish look on her face. "Sorry my textbook fell," she said her cheeks turning pink. I rolled my eyes and turned back around, getting comfortable again.
I had just begun dozing off when another, much louder bang rang through the cafeteria. I quickly sat up and turned in Giselle's direction, glaring at her. "Okay one time I can excuse, but two? Are you really that clumsy or are you just trying to annoy me?" I asked her raising my voice. Giselle's eyes widened and she blushed again. "I-it wasn't me." She said quietly. I turned to look at Cole, but he had a shocked look on his face and his earbuds were still in his ears.
"Then what the hell was that?" I asked as another bang sounded loudly through the room. A cold feeling of dread washed over me as Cole opened his mouth to answer, but I already knew the answer. "I think that was a gun."
