Chapter 2 Paranoid:
August 22,2012 Wednesday
First day of school was a drag everyone was just staring at me. But that’s not what I’m shocked about I did the thing most people would pee in their pant just thinking about it. I made Shane Carter mad! Not just the little mad he was in full pissed off ready to kill me kinda mad. Senior year was not supposed to start like this! Oh wait that’s not the best part Shane is out to get me and I’m freaking out for tomorrow! How am I gonna go to school with him after my life! I guess that’s what I get for my stupidity and anger but I couldn’t help it my fight or flight instincts kicked in and they always make me fight, I so got that from you dad. I don’t even know why I’m writing about that rude, obnoxious, evil person! Wait maybe because he made me laugh again and it felt great laughing I’m done with the crying I will always remember my parents but I’m not gonna cry about them it’s time for old Elena to return and I know mom and dad are gonna be happy to know that. I just hope the rest of the year goes by nicely that is if I can save myself from Shane.
I closed my diary and placed my flowers on their graves and walked back to Emily’s.
“Hey dinners ready,” Emily said right when I entered.
“I’ll be there in a sec Em.” Yeah Em that’s what I call her I know not original but whatever. Dinner at the Brooks, no not just dinner food at the Brooks is always the greatest!
“Thanks Mrs. Brooks your food is always the best,” I said with a large smile.
“Aw thanks sweetie if you don’t mind me saying you’re acting differently today, in a good way that is. You’re acting more like the old Elena.” I guess it’s obvious that I’m back to the old me.
“I know Mrs. Brooks I thought over it and I believe that mom and dad weren’t happy seeing me all crying over them so I’m not going to cry anymore. Their memories are always with me but like dad said life moves on and you have to move on with it.”
“AH! My Elena is back! But I got a glimpse of her at the parking lot at school today,” Em squealed.
“Oh God you had to remind me of that! Well I’m tired now all that running is not good for me, night Mrs. Brooks.”
“Goodnight darling.” I heard her say after me.
I stare at the clock 1:30 and I still couldn’t sleep! The only thing going on in my mind was what Shane’s gonna do to get me back. So I started to plan ways to avoid him and finally sleep hit me.
“Elena! Wake Up! We’re late!” I heard Em screaming.
“Fine, fine give me a minute I’ll meet you by the car. As I got out the front door I saw Mr. Conner my attorney.
“What brings you here Mr. Conner?”
“Hello Elena, I’m here to give you some good news.”
“Really! What could be the good news?” I asked curiously.
“I found a relative you could stay with,” he replied happily.
“Really? Who and where?” I asked now a bit worried.
“Her names Maria Carter, she happens to be your Godmother and she lives here about 10 minutes away from your school. She also has a son that goes to your school he’s also a senior you might happen to know him. His name is,” Mr. Conner was cut off by the loud noise of a car horn and I saw Em honking it waving to me to hurry up.
“I’m so sorry Mr. Conner but I should get going I’m already late for school. We can talk about this later,” I told him as I walked away to the car.
Today was like yesterday as soon as I got out of the car everyone’s eyes were on me. But instead of pity or sorrow in their eyes I saw fear for me. Oh snap I had totally forgot about the Shane incident he’s probably waiting for me inside or something. Oh God please help me today. That’s when a big arm wrapped around my shoulder causing me to scream.
“Whoa, Whoa, Whoa! Calm down Ninja it’s only me,” said my obnoxious best friend and sidekick Austin King.
“Ninja. Really? That’s the best you can come up with? This is why you’re the sidekick.” I said playfully.
“Whatever, so I heard about what happened yesterday with you and Shane. What’s wrong with you! Messing with Shane on the first day of senior year!” He said clearly amused by what happened and what’s going to happen.
“Shut up! It was by accident I didn’t mean to do that plus he had it coming he was behaving like a complete jerk. Oh and thank you it wasn’t like I was already worried as to what he was going to do to me!”
“Oh Elena don’t worry I’m not gonna let him do anything to you. I’m gonna be your bodyguard,” Austin said while admiring his muscles.
“Please! You’re 5’6 and puny. I’m taller than you and Shane on the other hand is 5’8 and muscular you don’t stand a chance the only thing similar between you guys are the blond hair and blue eyes, but how sweet and stupid of you to think you could defend me,” I said with a sweet smile as I patted his back and walked off leaving him standing there looking down at his arms while frowning.
He called after me, “You’re only taller cause you’re wearing heels.” It’s true I was wearing heels but only an inch tall.
Here I was outside of the school I took a deep breath and walked through the doors expecting Shane to just pop out of nowhere ready to strangle me. But strangely nothing like that happened so I cautiously walked to my newly assigned locker. I was opening my locker looking around seeing if Shane was anywhere when I felt a tap on my shoulder and I spun around with my hands balled up into fists defending my face and I heard a soft chuckle. It was Andrew or I like to call him Drew standing there towering over me with his arms up in a surrendering way. Let me tell you something about Drew he’s the nerdy, smart type of friend. Don’t get me wrong he doesn’t look nerdy at all he’s 5’9, has dark hair, and blue eyes. He’s also the understanding, responsible type of friend but very enjoyable to hang out with as well.
“Don’t punch me!” he cried sarcastically.
“Haha very funny,” I said as I rolled my eyes and dropped my fists.
“And you need to tell all my friends not to sneak up on me like that I’m already super paranoid because Shane’s after me.”
“Oh yeah I heard about that, you’re totally out of your mind to do such a thing oh and by the way I’m pretty sure your punch isn’t gonna do anything but make him more mad.”
“I know that Drew you’re not the first one telling me that Austin beat you to it and I can punch super hard!” I said as I was about to punch him but that’s when the first bell rang.
“I’ll see you at lunch,” I said as I hugged him and started walking away.
Then I heard him yell after me, “that is if you’re still alive!”
