'It's way too cold to go swimming right now.'
'I promised Freddie I was going to work on the new song.'
'We're going to a press conference in an hour and you know how stupid my hair looks when it's wet.'
'I'm not feeling too well today.'
'There are so many people around the pool.'
Roger always came up with an excuse, but this time, Brian was determined to take him to the swimming pool.
'But Brian...'Roger whined as he let himself fall back onto the mattress of their bed in the hotel room, ready to have another altercation about the usual subject.
'But Roger...' Brian imitated the helpless wail, and he couldn't oppress a chuckle. It was always the same story. Every time when they arrived at a hotel with a swimming pool – which was pretty often nowadays, since they had gotten quite famous and popular and could afford spending the night in a decent hotel instead of in those shabby, lousy inns – all he wanted was to jump right into the water. Besides playing guitar, swimming was one of his favourite hobbies, especially when it was in an outside pool. He loved it when the sun was shining down on him as he dove into the pool, when he had to shake his wet hair out of his face once he came back from the water, when he could peacefully swim some laps before he had to go back to the life of a rock star, giving press conferences, meeting dozens of people, signing autographs... Swimming brought some rest into his usually cloudy mind – it made him calm, and he could definitely use a little peace of mind every now and then. But as much as he loved swimming, there was one thing he would even rather do: Swimming with his boyfriend. But every time he asked Roger, the younger boy came up with all sorts of excuses.
'Please please pleeease,' Brian begged, flashing his cutest puppy eyes at him, but Roger didn't give in.
'No, I don't want to. I uhm... I can't today.'
'Tell me, what's the excuse of the day, my little darling?' Brian asked, staring at the pool outside – the water looked so bright blue and there was not a single person around. He couldn't wait to jump into it, but not before he had made sure that Roger was in the water, as well.
'I... haven't brought my swimwear with me,' Roger answered and Brian smirked before his gaze left the swimming pool and he walked over to their closet, opening it and pulling out a black garment.
'And that's why I brought an extra pair of swimming trunks!' he said pedantically. Roger quickly propped himself up on his elbows, but when he saw that Brian wasn't joking, he let out a frustrated groan and rested his head on the pillows again.
'Oh come on, it can't be that bad! You love showering, whenever you take a bath you're in there for at least an hour, why don't you like swimming? Why?' Brian asked.
'Because – that's why,' Roger mumbled. He knew he had to tell his boyfriend at some point, because he was running out of excuses and he didn't want to lead him on. But as Brian sat down next to him on the bed, already dressed in solely his dark blue swim trunks, he knew this wasn't the moment.
'You're a bit grumpy today, aren't you?' Brian said in his imperturbable mood, sliding his fingers under the hem of Roger's shirt, tickling his stomach. Roger tried to remain calm but he was so ticklish that Brian had him begging for mercy within five seconds. 'And you know what I do to grumpy little boys. I simply throw them in the swimming pool,' Brian smiled widely as Roger squirmed beneath his hand, crying out in frustration.
