when we got home morty made some toast and we all ate at the dinner table in silence.
"are y-you okay?" morty said quietly looking up at me.
"i wanna know why i'm here." i said getting frustrated. "you guys risked your lives for me so it must be pretty important."
rick and morty looked at each other.
"mortys sick remember-" rick said
"quit the bullshit." i said rolling my eyes.
"(y/n) no one belongs anywhere, would you rather stay home bored all day or live with the smartest guy in literally the whole universe and a winey teenager." rick said.
none of this made sense, but he had a point. it looks like i wasn't gonna get an answer anytime soon so i might as well stick around and see what happens. besides they did save my life so i know i can trust them.
"hey, i'm not winey!" morty said.
rick and i looked at each other then immediately burst out laughing.
"good one, morty." rick chuckled.

it was 3:14am and i couldn't sleep. i shuddered everytime i thought of today's events.
it's weird how all your emotions catch up with you at nighttime.
i looked at the framed pictures on the bedside table, there was a girl wearing all pink with strawberry blonde hair who i assumed was summer. she was standing with her friends which looked like a party.
she looked so happy and pretty, that's all i wanna be.
anyway, lying here isn't gonna do anything, i'll go downstairs to see if there's any melatonin.
once again i tip toed down the stairs. i've mastered the skill of walking silently, since i've always had bad insomnia.
i opened the medicine cabinet and quietly searched through all the medicines.
morphine, sertaline, adderall, codine, some weird alien stuff. there's a shit tone of antidepressants in here. i didn't expect that, rick hides it well.
xanax, citalopram, there it is, melatonin.
"you getting yourself drunk again, (y/n)?" someone said.
i turned around to face rick sitting on the kitchen counter. i had all his medicine in his hands.
"oh, upgrade. now you're getting baked." rick said.
"no, no, no it's just melatonin. i cant sleep." i said.
"look if it's about the thing. you're here now, you're fine. don't dwell on the past, okay? because you aren't there anymore, you're here in the present. you're gonna get over it and everything's gonna be fine." rick said.
rick was being nice to me.
"thanks. i really mean it." i said. rick nodded.
"but what about you?" i said. rick looked at my confused.
"you drink 24/7, you have all these meds." i said.
"oh sweetheart that's just for breakfast." rick chuckled.
rick wasn't being serious, i was.
"it's nothing okay? come on, that melatonin shit isn't gonna do anything. who knows what they put in that. i've got something better." rick said gesturing me to follow him into the garage.
"i've got it somewhere..." he said scavenging through his drawers. "ahah! here."
rick pulled out a needle that i felt sick with just the look off.
i gulped. "what are you scared." rick scoffed.
"no." i lied. i've always been terrified off needles.
rick rolled up my sleeve and held my arm tight.
"hey, look how pretty the stars are." rick said.
i looked up out of the garage door, they were beautiful tonight. i've never seen anything like it. sometimes i wish i was just floating around in space and looking down at earth and realising how small all our problems are.
i felt a pinch in my arm that i flinched from, but it wasn't that bad.
"see, that was easy, nothing to be scared of." rick said patting my arm and rolling down my sleeve.
"now this stuffs strong so go back to bed now or you will literally collapse on the ground in about 5 minutes."
"i appreciate it." i smiled.
the blue moonlight was reflecting onto ricks pale face. i actually really like this guy. he pretends like he doesn't care but i can clearly see, he does.
