Maria and Jenna

On a typical fall afternoon on a Saturday, Maria and Jenna hanged out next to the tire swings of the school playground. They were both rereading Henry Skreever and the Cabbage of Mayhem together.

Maria: Can I turn the page now?

Jenna: Not yet. Almost done with this paragraph. Hey, do you want to come to Wonder World with me? My parents are taking me tomorrow.

Maria: I wish I could. But my moms and my brother Steve and I are planning to have on having a  marathon of all our favorite movies. Maybe I can go with you some other time.

Jenna: But we have to go tomorrow.

Maria: Then you can bring someone else with you. Like Alex or Francine.

Jenna: But we haven't gone together in a long time, and tomorrow is the last day its going to be opened until it reopens next year. Can't you postpone your marathon until next week.

Maria: I can't. My family has been planning this for weeks. I can't let them down to spend time with you again.

Jenna: What's so bad about that?

Maria: Nothing. It just seems unnecessary.

Jenna: Unnecessary?! Hanging out with me is unnecessary?

Maria: I wasn't saying it like that. I meant canceling the marathon with my family is unnecessary.

Jenna: But its going to closed by the end of tomorrow. You can always reschedule time with your family.

Maria: But I don't want to. My moms, and Steve have been really looking forward to this. And so have I. You can come if you want. You should probably sleepover tonight, because we are going to wake up at five o'clock in the morning to get ready to watch the first movie, and-

Jenna: But you love Wonder World.

Maria: I do. But we can go back when it reopens again.

Jenna lets go of the book, and hands it to Maria (which was Maria's book to begin with), and stood up.

Maria: Where are you going? We're almost done with this chapter.

Jenna: I'm not interested in finishing it now. We can read it together once Wonder World reopens again.

Jenna starts walking away.

Maria: Jenna wait!

Jenna: I'm going to invite someone else.

Maria: Please don't make this into a big deal than it needs to be.

Jenna: It is a big deal.

Jenna said without looking back, and leaves Maria, and heads home.

D.W. and the Strange Kate

D.W. was mad at Kate for what she did to her game. But she was also suspicious, since Kate has been acting weird for a few days.

The next day, on a Sunday morning during breakfast, D.W. stares at Kate while eating her cereal, as mom feeds Kate banana rice porridge.

Arthur: Mom can you tell D.W. to stop staring like that at Kate?

D.W: I'm not staring, I'm observing. Kate has been acting weird, and I'm trying to figure out why. Kate never liked banana rice porridge before.

Mom: She's growing up, D.W. Now eat your cereal.

D.W: I am eating it.
