Chuck
¶ The last thing I remembered from the accident was the screeching sound as the tyres ground to a halt and Mom, Dad and Lisa screaming. Black spots swimming in my eyes, it was that moment between life and death where random thoughts, emotions and regrets fill up your mind alongside the urge to just fall asleep and forget the pain. Strangely the only thing I regretted about my short 18 years of life on earth was not telling Megan how I truly felt about her. As that wave of emotion rolled over me the only thing I could do in my helpless state was picture her face, Oh! that face which had given me many a sleepless night. I had lost count of the number of hours I had wasted on having fantasies of both of us, sometimes I fantasized us making out, on a starry night with a full moon that had a dancing reflection in the nearby creek, sometimes it was her laugh that filled my mind, its soft peals resonating in my consciousness. And there and then I decided I wasn't just going to die without at least finding out if she, by any chance shared the same feelings for me.
♠ I tried standing up to assess the damage done and if there were any survivors, all I got in return were a wave of nausea and another set of big black spots that threatened to overwhelm me, I wasn't sure if my family was okay but I just had to believe so as to keep going.
"You should assess the damage done to your body before making any moves", said a voice. " Yeah I should", I grunted. I was going to do as I was told before I discovered that the voice I had heard was a very humanlike voice and that there didn't seem to be anybody around that could have spoken, so I looked around and unsurprisingly, there was nobody there.
I dismissed it as the side effects of the confused state I was in, after all I had just been involved in a car accident, scratch that, a ghastly accident which afterwards turned out to be fatal, as I soon discovered that my mother and father weren't moving. I shook them but it was pointless because they were already dead. The strangest thing about it all was the fact that I was so calm and able to think. "This is not of your own doing", it said. " Woah", I exclaimed, what's going on here? "I believe I just spoke to you", said the voice. " I know that", I retorted. "But who are you?" "Well that is a question question, that you will know its answer in due time, but my advice to you right now is to get out of here!!!", he shouted. " Working on it, although I really wish you would shut up and let me think."
