In chronological order, this story takes place thousands of years after the events in Imposter.
The world has changed drastically, as hinted at in the ending of Imposter (you do not have to read Imposter to understand The Bird & The Beast).
I realized once I got too attached to the title how it would give off the vibe of a Beauty and The Beast retelling.
It's not, I assure you, but someone might be able to find similarities.
Like Imposter, this story really was not planned, but it's been through a few rewrites and it's not high on my list for a new one any time soon.
I originally wrote it after one of my drafts of The Other Side, when I realized I wanted to give Raven and Damien the backstory I kept hinting at.
It was kind of a wild trip, writing this one. I did my best to delve into the mess that was Damien and Raven's relationship.
This is not a romance story, nor is it meant to be taken as a love story. I am not glorifying the abuse, and I did my best to write it as it is.
A complicated, messy, toxic relationship between two people - one who can't let go and the other who is trapped.
As much as I enjoy writing dysfunctional, toxic relationships, I never want someone to think I am glorifying them, or justifying the way one character treats another.
Just a heads up of the things to come ;)
