It Was Just A Small Bite

Addisons POV

Me and Zed had just finished our last class of the day and as we made our way to the lockers Zed asked if I wanted him to walk me home.

I said yes and as I was speaking my phone rang.

I looked and it was my mom, so I answered and said "hey mom what is it?" "Hey honey" she says.

"I just wanted to tell you that Grandpa James and Grandma Betty are here so you may want to tell them about Zed before you bring him to the front door. I'm sure you two were planning on walking together but just for grandpa's sake maybe wait a little, ok?"

"Alright mom, I'll be home soon." "bye sweetie."

I hang up and turn to Zed who's been patiently waiting on his phone, leaning against the lockers.

"Well Zed, that was my mom and, um, well, my Grandpa James is at my house so uh, maybe you shouldn't um just show up at the door before I have time to explain everything about us to him." "Um ok, but what does your grandpa have to do with me walking you home?" He asks.

"Well you know how I told you a zombie bit my grandpa's ear off?" I ask.

"Yea?" he replies with a questioning tone.

"Well it's that grandpa that's at my house so I have to explain to him that zombies aren't dangerous, because he still thinks you guys are nothing more than brain-eating monsters." I say with an eye roll.

"Ohh ok I get it, I'll just have to walk you home some other time!"

"I guess so," I reply with a giggle.

He leans down and presses his lips to mine in a short, sweet kiss.

We walk to the doors of the school together holding hands and meet up with Eliza, Bree, and Bonzo.

"Well guys I hate to run off already but my grandpa's at my house so I gotta go." I say. "Ok then, bye Addi!" Bree says in her usual, perky manner.

" bye adds." Eliza says. "gby Addiska!" says Bonzo. 

"bye addi, text me later," Zed tells me with a pointed look. I know he means tell him how things go with Grandpa James.

" Ok I will." I respond. " Bye everyone!" I say and then start the walk home.

When I get there I open the door and yell " I'm home!" And then Grandpa James comes in from the living room and says,"my, Addison! Look at how pretty you are! It's been much too long since I last saw you!"

"Aw thanks grandpa" I say just as Grandma Betty comes in and says,  "hello Addison, come give your grandma a hug!"

I giggle and comply.

Then grandpa asks how I'm doing in school. "Pretty good I'm getting mostly A's and B+'s and only 1 C+ in math." I report.

"Well that's great honey!" grandma says. "That's my girl,  learning and working hard even with those zombies in the school."

I slightly cringe at the tone she uses and am about to say something about how nice and cool zombies are when grandma says,"so you're parents tell us you made the cheer squad!?"

"Yep!" I say proudly. "Well that's not very surprising since this family has been cheering for generations!" Grandpa remarks.

"Yes that's true." Grandma says.

'Well' I think to myself, ' I guess I should go ahead and tell them about Zed. I'm really nervous though.'

I muster all my courage and say,  "Hey grandma, grandpa guess what?!"

"What?" they both say. "I have a boyfriend!" I say trying to sound as normal as possible.

"Ooh!" Grandma, always the romantic, says. "What's he like?"

"Well he's on the football team as a fullback, he's really sweet and kind,  his name is Zed and, well um uh ah," "well out with it!" Demands grandpa, " well he's also a um a a z-zombie!"
