The sunlight gleamed through the window, it was a cool and crisp autumn morning and the golden light danced, making patterns on the floor. In the small single bed tucked away in the corner, Anne Shirley-Cuthbert stirred. She simply loved the mornings and today was no exception, in fact, today should have been one of the best mornings ever. She certainly thought so last night before sleep finally invaded her giddy and anxious thoughts. However, she did not expect the night to be riddled with such terrifying nightmares. She awoke abruptly. Her was mind racing and thoughts pooling into her brain. One thing, or more accurately, one person had taken over her. Gilbert Blythe. She had been dreaming of him, much to her own dismay. She had always fantasized of what a fantastically tragical romance would be like but she was certain did not want one with Gilbert. Her subconscious, on the other hand, had other plans.

In her dream she had gotten ready for school and walked out the door, she was greeted by Gilbert, his hazel eyes bright and full of twinkling light. Instead of walking to the schoolhouse they had decided to ditch. Which she realized now that she was awake, was ridiculous, she would never ditch, let alone with Gilbert Blythe. He had grabbed her hand, hers seemed to fit so perfectly in his, and they ran through the woods. Soon they had reached the lake of shining waters and without thinking they both plunged in without removing any of their school clothes. They splashed and laughed and soon his arms were around her and she could feel his warm breath, he leaned towards her and...

"MARILLA!" She screamed in frustration, reaching out for her pillow to press to her face. Marilla came running in, her shoes clicking on the hardwood floors.

"Anne! what's all this ruckus about? are you ill?"

"Severely Marilla, I'm afraid if I go to school today I might throw up all over Gilbert!"

"Don't say something so ludicrous! You're going to school today and that's final! Besides, I thought you were quite fond of the Blythe boy..."

Anne's mouth fell open, her cheeks starting to flush, and she huffed "Hardly Marilla! in fact, he's probably one of my least favourite people in all of Avonlea!"

Marilla chuckled, Anne did have a tendency to be a bit over dramatic.

"Well it doesn't do well to dread, get up and dressed, breakfast is nearly ready." and with that Marilla left, closing the door behind her, leaving Anne to her thoughts. If this was any indication of how this school year was going to be, Anne had her work cut out for her.
