(Hey guys! I found the book cover art on Pinterest, but it's not the real creator, if anyone knows who it is let me know, thank you! And enjoy.)
I walked by a giant banner on the wall that read in bold text, 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY CATTY!' as I approached the snack table. Standing in my way was a group of girls, "Ahem, excuse me," I hissed. One of the girls turned to me, she was Frankie Stein. "Hey, Toralei! Some party, huh?" It was hard to understand her through the piercingly loud music.
I placed a hand on my hip, "Yeah, uh huh, wonderful," I said sarcastically. As I tried reaching my hand for a plastic solo cup, Frankie interrupted me.
"Yeah, Catty Noir hosts the greatest parties in... like... the whole world!"
I rolled my eyes, "In the whole world, eh?" I took a cup off the stack set next to the punch bowl.
"Of course!" Frankie's arms sprung into the air with excitement, at that moment her hand detached and went flying. As I was reaching for the metal spoon in the punch bowl, punch splashed onto my hair and face. I looked down at the bowl to see Frankie's detached hand submerged in fruit punch. I clenched my teeth in frustration, moving strands of hair away from my face.
"Oh my gosh, Toralei, I'm so sorry!" She reached into the bowl, shaking off her detached hand, and pulling it back in place.
I took a long exhale, feeling each drop of fruit punch run down my face, "FRANKIE!" I grabbed the collar of her dress, pulling her aggressively towards me.
"When I'm done with you, ya won't have anymore limbs to fling around!" I growled.
Clawdeen walked over to find out what was going on, "Woah woah woah, what the hell is going on here?"
I looked over to her, "This isn't about you, Clawdeen!"
"Toralei, you better leave Frankie alone, or else I will tell a certain somebody about this," Clawdeen folded her arms and cocked an eyebrow.
I knew exactly what she meant. A few months back, Meowlody and I got into a fight, and she tried to find all ways to expose me. I had nothing to hide but one thing, I've been crushing on Clawd Wolf. That's when Meowlody told Clawdeen that I liked her brother. She's been blackmailing me ever since.
I scrunched up my nose, loosening my grip, letting Frankie stumble back. I turned to the snack table noticing a tall opened bottle of whisky. I smirked a bit as I poured a dramatic amount into my plastic cup.
"Uhm Toralei... I don't think you're supposed to drink that," Frankie shouted through the loud music.
"Oh yeah, and who's gonna stop me?" I walked away. I began thinking about Clawd, 'If he finds out I almost beat the shit out of his sister's ghoul friend, he would probably think I'm the biggest jerk ever,' I thought to myself. I tried pushing through the crowd of dancing monsters, until I reached a quiet dark corner.
"Finally, some peace!" I sat on the floor, beside a buffet table where no one can see me. I held my knees close and tapped the red plastic cup with my fingernails. I looked up at the DJ stand as Holt Hyde lowered the music to make an announcement. He'd raise the mic, "Before I start this next song, I want to bring the birthday girl up here on stage!" The crowd surrounding Holt from below cheered as Catty made her way up on stage. Her silver and hot pink birthday dress was reflective to the spotlight that shined on her, I hated to admit it looked gorgeous on her.
Catty held the mic to her face, "I just want to thank everyone for coming! I couldn't have had a better eighteenth birthday without you guys!"
"Cheesy, huh?" A raspy voice chuckled from beside me. A girl appeared from the shadows, "Hey."
"Uhm, hi...?" I cocked an eyebrow.
"I'm Twyla... you probably don't know me, I'm kind of irrelevant around here."
"Same," I gripped onto the plastic cup, downing a shot amount. I flinched as the whisky burned my throat. The girl just sat beside me staring at the stage. Catty eventually ended up singing one of her songs, her voice echoed throughout the entire venue. The neon strobe lights and lasers started giving me a headache. I downed another shot amount. As time passed, I didn't even realize how much I drank, the entire solo cup was empty.
Twyla turned to me, noticing something was wrong, "Hey, uh, you okay?"
I adjusted my posture, "What-?! Oh, yeah!" I groaned holding my head, "Damn this headache!"
The DJ announced on the mic that it was time for cake. I stood on my two feet, nearly tripping forward, I felt dizzy. Twyla gripped onto my arm, helping me keep balance, "Maybe you should stay seated," she suggested.
"I'm fine! Besides... it's time for cake-!" my speech was slurred. At the corner of my eye I seen Catty sitting at her table with Cleo de Nile. I rushed towards them, "Hey Cattyyyyy!"
She looked up from her seat, "Oh, uh- hey... Uh..."
"It's Toraleiiiii," my head would sway back and fourth.
Cleo turned facing me, "Oh my Rah, she don't even know your name, you're lucky you even got invited. You should be surprised because it's not often you get invited to parties often, anyways," she flipped her hair.
I crawled onto the table approaching Cleo, "He-Hey how 'bout you shuddap-! We all know you prolly sucked off the bouncer to get in here, Cleo-!"
She gasped, "Ex-cah-use me?!"
I turned to Catty, "Catty, you should stop inviting these psychopaths at you parties!" my speech slurred more than ever.
"Yeah, let's start with you," she folded her arms in disgust.
I growled, again, clenching my teeth. I noticed sitting beside me was a half empty whisky bottle, I smirked, "Oh that reminds me... I haven't given your birthday gift yet." I bent down reaching for the neck of the bottle, "Happy birthday, bitch!" raised it above her, and smashed it across her temple. The last thing I remember was shards of glass, blood and screaming.
