~What are you supposed to say when someone knock on the door of the public bathroom your in? ~
Rosen
I took a deep breath. Allowing the cool air to enter my lungs. I opened my eyes and gazed out at the black town as the bright colours from the sky above it slowly creeped under the shadows and was replaced by the pitch black blanket.
I looked down at the single rose in my bruised hand after training and stared at it. My face remained emotionless but I unfortunately didn't miss the pang in my chest. I fiddled with it, poking the thorns and grazing my rough fingers over the smooth petals. Who knew something so beautiful and pure can become a symbol for so many things.
My peaceful moment was short lived, however. Frantic footsteps and heavy breathing was heard from somewhere below. I furrowed my eyebrows and pulled up my hood as I continued to listen. The footsteps stopped for a short second but then the person started banging. The cries got louder and more desperate.
I stood up and walked over to the opposite edge of the building. I looked down and saw a white hoodie stood in front of Blooming Petals, then they started to bang again. My eyes grew wide and anger surged to my bloodstream. I ran to the fire stairs and hopped over the railings, one after the other, until I landed safely on the ground.
I looked up at the figure when they let out a frustrated scream and stepped back. Their hands went up to their head which caused their hood to fall down, letting the long locks of hair fall down. It was only then did I realised the shorts they had in and put it together that this was a girl.
She shook her head with her hands still in her hair, muttering inaudible words through sobs and heavy breaths. I was completely taken back at the state she was in so I hesitantly took a step towards her.
I noticed she was about to lunge for the door again so I was swift to jump forwards and grab her. I wrapped my arms around her waist tightly to prevent her from doing any damage to the door.
"No!" She cried and started to thrash around in my arms, desperate to break through. But I didn't budge.
"Let me go!" She screamed. My heart ached slightly for the stranger with knowing. The state she was in was all too familiar.
"I-I have to get the roses! She need to know I'm s-sorry!Its all my fault, I need to say sorry!" She cried loudly, trying to reach for the door so I pulled her back, earning another blood curdling scream from the girl. I could hear her heavy breaths, she had no control over them and I feared she would pass out.
"Please!" She sobbed while shaking her head. I tried to keep a tight hold on her but I began to loose my balance from her longing to get into that shop.
"They need to know I'm sorry" She sobbed quietly and then fell back against me with exhaustion. That did neither of us any favour as I feel back onto the concrete and against the tall brick building.
I let out a sigh of relief. But then I felt her shaking uncontrollably. I grabbed her wrist to feel her pulse and felt the rapid beat against my two fingers. She continued crying so I lifted her up and turned her around so she was sat in between my legs with hers either side of me. Her head was down and her curly locks fell down over her face, covering the tears that left her eyes relentlessly.
I stared at her, contemplating this act of kindness. I could easily leave her here. And a few weeks ago I would have. Why can't I do that now?
