"Where the fuck have you been?" I whisper.

Carson shrugs. "Adventuring."

"I could have come."

She shakes her head softly. "No you couldn't have."

"I abused my head thinking about you, Carson." I cry. "You can't show up again and expect things to be normal."

"I know-"

"Where have you fucking been?"

Carson takes off her bag and takes a seat on my bed. "I left to find someone who was like me. Or I guess... Us."

"What do you mean us?"

"Ethan, there's a lot more people out there who don't love the people they timed out on." She smiles weakly. "They call them timeless."

"But everyone said it's impossible-"

"That's what they want us to think. That's what our parents, our friends, teachers. That's what they're taught. Nobody else knows about the dark side to this."

"This doesn't make sense." I sigh as I take a seat next to her.

She turns her body to mine and smiles weakly at me with tears in her eyes. "It means that I do love you. That I can love you. We're not crazy. I came back here for you. I left so this made sense."

"That what made sense?"

Carson stared at me blankly. "This. Why I'm here with you right now and not with James."

She fiddled with her fingers as the moonlight shined on her.

"I couldn't love him." She cried. "As hard as I tried I just couldn't."

"Why was he the last person you saw?"

"Because saying goodbye to you was too hard." Carson replied with pain in her voice. "I didn't know how long I was going for."

"You've all I've been able to think about." I cry. "I though you were in danger."

Carson looked at me with a small smile. "The only reason why I came back was for you."

"I'm glad you're okay."

"It can just be you and I now."

"It always had been." I whisper.

I kiss her softly and she holds me tightly. We get into bed and I hold Carson in my arms. This had felt like home. Everything felt warmer and safer.

"You need sleep." Carson whispers.

"Will you be here when I wake up?" I question.

She nods slowly and kisses me again. "Of course I will." Carson replies. "I love you, so much."
