Chapter Six

Claire’s POV

On our way to the lab, It was still silence. I kept a small distance from Fabian so it doesn’t look a bit awkward but no matter how far I am, the girls that we walk past to are staring at Fabian with their ‘OMG’ faces.

I can’t handle any more stares so I grabbed Fabian’s arm and dragged him into the janitor’s room.

I opened the light and closed the door. There were cleaning products on every shelf and dishwashing products for the canteen filled the small room with its lemon scent. As I shut the door, the mop on the top shelf suddenly fell right in the middle of us and made us jump, “Whoa!” he exclaimed. I laughed, or more like a chuckle, at him as he panicked. I picked up the mop and put it back in place.

“Didn’t know you were scared of mops,” I teased him and he rolled his eyes at me.

“Would you mind explaining to me why you dragged me to the janitor’s room?” he said, raising one of his eyebrows up

“Look, since you’re a new kid and I don’t want any awkwardness to happen between us, don’t go around the school telling that we know each other, don’t tell anyone that we live together and don’t act all close to me, alright? I’ll treat you as a normal new kid and you’ll treat me as a new friend or something. Deal?” I asked and put my hand on his shoulder

“So, you’re like… embarrassed that you know me?” he said, sweeping my arm off from his shoulder

Gee. Why’s he taking this so seriously? “No, it’s not like that. I just want to have a chance to start over normally so, I’ll give it a chance and do it in school. It’s not that personal you know and it’s neither business,” I joked

“You think pretending like you don’t know me is funny?” he asked all seriously, “Pathetic.”

He opened the door and marched out. Ouch, I thought. Kind of think of it, I think it did sound a little harsh… Ugh. What am I suppose to do now?

I closed the lights, left the room and closed the door, still thinking about what just happened.

Why was he so sensitive about it? Oh yeah, he’s in it with mum and aunt’s plans. But will he still pretend like he doesn’t know me and all? Ah! This is just too frustrating.

I went inside the lab and sat on my seat. I took of my blazer and put it on the side. I put my chemistry book on the table and took a lab coat. I walked back to my seat and put it on. I looked around to look for Fabian. He wasn’t here.

I opened my chemistry book and read the chapter about molecules. Lately, I’ve been trying really hard to be as smart as Casey and since she is my best friend, she tutors me with every subject we learn. I’m really thankful that I have a wonderful best friend for all these six years. Yes, Casey and I have been best friends since first grade. Casey isn’t coming for today’s class because she has a meeting with the other council members. Oh yeah, Casey’s the student body presidents and I’m her secretary. I decided not to come to that meeting. I had other important stuff to do.

I flipped the page and tried to focus on what I’m reading. The whole class is like a zoo. The cool and popular kids like the cheer leaders are on the table, texting away to their boyfriends or flirting on a jock or a cute guy or something, especially Vanessa. Vanessa is the captain of the cheerleading squad and she is also known as the Beauty Queen and the mean girl of the school.
