Chapter 1: Meet Mistkit

Mistkit

I was curled up and suckling at my mother's stomach. Suddenly my mother got up and left. Mom! Where are you going. You shouldn't have anything else to worry about except for me! I thought. I wanted my mom with me until I was ready.

Even though my eyes were closed, I could smell all the herbs and the strong scent of cat outside. I wandered around using my sense of smell until my mother came back. Then she guided me around the den teaching me herbs.

"Mistkit, this is burdock root, we use it for rat bites, so they don't get infected." She moved on and taught me about cobwebs and well, on it went. Suddenly, a loud jingling sounded through the whole camp.

This was the time to open my eyes. I forced my eyes open and rushed to the entrance. A blue-gray cat jumped onto a big rock and announced something about a cat coming to live here as an...apprentice? Was that the word?

I searched the crowd and found the source of the jingling. It was an orange cat with something around his neck. Suddenly a fight broke out between the orange cat and a white cat. I ran back to my mom and cuddled up next to her.

"Why can't I go there Spottedleaf?" I really wanted to meet all those cats out there. "Not now. You're too young and they don't know you exist yet." Then she got up and took cobwebs with her. I drifted off to sleep.

At moon-high, I was prodded up by Spottedleaf and taken out of the den. I got a good look of the camp for probably the first time. We exited through the dirt tunnel soundlessly and walked awhile. "Spottedleaf, where are we going at  moon-high?"

"Mistkit, do you remember what I told you about the clans?" I shook my head. "Well, there are four clans where we live," Spottedleaf started. "ThunderClan, RiverClan, WindClan, and ShadowClan. It is against the warrior code to have a mate in another clan, or in my case have a mate at all..." My mother carried on.

"So you weren't allowed to have me?" I asked. "Yes, that's right, but I still have you right?" In awhile, we were fox-lengths from towering rocks (Sunning Rocks).

"First, even though you're a kit, I'm going to start you on hunting lessons." Spottedleaf meowed. "Now? Okay whats first?" I went of with her to the river. "To catch a fish, you hold your paw over the water, and when it comes, you scoop your paw in and out quickly." she meowed softly and showed me once. She, then, let me try.

I leaned over the water and... "Wait Mistkit, don't get your shadow on the water, because then the fish wil know to avoid that spot." "Thanks," I murmured into my fur. I tried again and got a fish but right as I was going to catch it, it slipped out of my paws and right back into the river. I tried again and after awhile succeeded to kill it. I set it on the grass.

"Can I have it?" "Sure, if you are able to catch it, you might as well eat it." My mother said and nudged me towards the piece of prey. After I finished the fish, I was taught how to swim. "Why are we learning to swim if we're in ThunderClan not RiverClan?" I meowed to Spottedleaf.

"Well, even though we're in a different clan, it doesn't mean we don't learn the capabilities of the other clans, for example, fishing and swimming, so if something happened to someone you would be able to help." I struggled against the current, as I was a small kit, so mother swam behind me so I didn't get carried down the river.

I got out of the river, shook my pelt and padded over to Spottedleaf. "We should go now. It's almost dawn." "Soon she'll see the reason. Very very soon." My mother was murmuring. We then started to collect some herbs that were running low.

"Well, anyway, why do we have to do it at night?" I asked curiously. "You were born and exist against the warrior code, so cats, except for me and..., can't know about you." "And who?" I asked. "Now is not the time to know. We rushed into the medicine cat den.

As we were sorting the herbs we collected on the way back I meowed,"So when can people know about me and not get you in trouble?" "I think in three sunrises it will be time, just no one shall no I'm your mother."
