1| I Do___________________________
WEDDINGS WERE CONSIDERED TO BE HAPPY occasions, after all, it united two people who were madly in love. It is then expected that those two people live happily ever after, have at least two children, and then die in each other’s arms.
Along the way, the couple would inevitably endure hardships, but nothing they weren’t strong enough to handle. These struggles would just end up strengthening their relationship, making them love each other even more.
But that wasn’t reality, and Emilíe wasn’t naive enough to believe fairy tales. She had made that mistake once, and was definitely not going to do it again.
The truth about it all, which usually applied to those with money, was that people only married for publicity. Weddings looked good, especially if the couple looked good, and normally brought in a fair amount of cash. Love was only an afterthought.
Which is why Emilíe knew that the couple exchanging vows in front of her wasn’t going to last very long. They’d known each other for less than a year and were still in the lust faze. Soon enough, they would either get bored or realize they married someone with absolutely no personality.
They would then get divorced and find someone else, but not necessarily in that order.
“And do you, Alexander, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?”
“I do.”
“Then it is at this time, that I may pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride.”
The couple exchanged a passionate kiss, no doubt eagerly awaiting the night to arrive. In her opinion, Emilíe didn’t really understand why the groom was so attracted to the bride. Of course, she was pretty, but in an average sort of way. In all honesty, her dress was more attractive than her.
More likely, it was the horrible breast implants she had gotten.
Forcing a smile on her face, Emilíe turned to look at the woman sitting next to her. “I don’t know about you, Grace, but I could use some wine.”
Grace chuckled, brushing her dark curls over her shoulder. “After sitting through that long-ass ceremony, I might need something a little stronger than wine.”
The sound of their heels clicking on the marbled floor was barely heard over the large number of people making an attempt to squeeze their way out of the crowded church. The ceremony had lasted just over an hour, and everyone was dying to go and stretch their legs.
Moments before the two women reached the exit, Grace spun on her heel and began to drag Emilíe in the opposite direction.
“Grace! What are you doing?”
Her friend shrugged, continuing to pull Emilíe further away from the doors. “I-I would like to admire the architecture. I think it’s baroque?”
Emilíe rolled her eyes and marched her way back to the exit in a huff. “I don’t know what has gotten into you, Gracelyn, but I really don’t need this right now.”
“I just thought you might want to avoid seeing-”
And then she saw him. The very last person Emilíe would want to see at a wedding. The man that broke her heart. The man who was the father of her children and ended their marriage because he got bored.
Dominic.
And he was kissing another woman.
