“Mom, when can we get a dog? I promised to be a good boy and I studied hard.” Aron asked. “Ok I’ve seen you’ve worked hard enough, I think you’ve more than earned a dog. Tomorrow we’ll visit a pet shop.” Aron’s mom said adamantly. “Yeeeeeeeeheeeeeeeyyyyy! Woooooooooohooooooooo!” Aron said as he jumped in joy. “Ok then, time to sleep little one.” Aron’s mom said sweetly. “Aaaaaaaaawwwwww, but I’m not sleepy.” Aron said. “Young man, you’re not getting a dog unless you sleep right now.” Aron’s mom said strictly. “Uuuuuuuuuuggggghhhhhh, fine.” Aron said unwillingly. “And you have to sleep with me tonight.” Aron’s mom said with a smile. “But moooooom, I’m 10 years old, I can sleep on my own.” Aron complained. Aron’s mom looked Aron sternly on the eye. “Uuuuuuuuuugggghhhh, fine.” Aron said unwillingly. Aron’s mom smiled with a giggle.
Aron’s mom is a single mother, meaning they’re a family with no father. Her name is Jessica, Jessica is working overtime everyday so she can support her kid’s needs, so she can buy Aron a dog. Jessica tried not to spoil her little kid, Aron. She teached him “Delayed Gratification”. Delayed Gratification means you can get something by earning it or on Aron’s case, he needs to study hard and be a good son, and so he did. Jessica taught Aron things aren’t meant to be earned so easily, she’s a good mother.
The next morning. Aron woke up early to wake her mother. “Mom! Mom! Can we go now? Can we go and buy a dog?” Aron said excitingly. “Aron, it’s like 5:00am in the morning, we’ll go later ok? Around 12:00pm at noon, does that sound good? And besides, it’s too early to go. Shops are probably closed” Aron’s mom said convincingly. “Ok, fine. I’ll just get back to sleep then.” Aron said disappointingly. Aron’s mom giggled and said silently, “Oh my little child.” “What’s that now?” Aron asked. “Nothing I just said I love you.” Aron’s mom said with a smile. So they went back to sleep
Morning has passed and at exactly 12:00pm noon, they went outside to the pet shop. Aron quickly went inside. “Aron wait for me! Don’t be in such a hurry.” Aron’s mom said. Aron saw all kinds of animals, dogs, cats, birds and……… “Ugh, gross.” And worms. “Good afternoon miss, what can I do for you today?” The shopkeeper asked politely. “Hi, we’d like to buy a dog please.” Aron’s mom said. “Oh, excellent! Well there’s plenty to choose from, we have Pugs, bulldogs, Shih tzus, Poodles, Labradors-“
Aron wasn’t listening to the shopkeeper, he was too busy picking the perfect dog. There’s a sleepy dog. “I don’t want a lazy dog, I want someone to play with.” Then there’s an overactive dog. “I don’t want overactive dogs, they’re too much work.” “Having a dog kid is much work. You should know that. Trust me, I know.” The shopkeeper said. Aron can’t seem to pick the right dog for him, then. Something caught his eye. “What’s that?” Aron asked the shopkeeper as he points his finger at it. “Oh, that’s an Askal.” The shopkeeper said. “
What’s an Asklal?” Aron asked. “An Askal, is a common dog from the Philippines. Someone donated it to me because they don’t want to take care of him.” The shopkeeper said. “Why won’t they want to take care of him?” Aron asked curiously. “Well because, he’s sick. The vets said there’s something wrong with his stomach think its called gastroenteritis but it caused him to defecate all the time.” “Oh my gosh, is he going to die?” Aron asked with concern. “Not, if anyone are willing to pay the medical bills. I can’t I don’t earn that much money.”
Aron looked at the poor Askal with much pity. Poor little guy, he just needs someone to take care of him. Hey, maybe I can! Aron thought. “How much does it cost to cure his illness?” Aron asked. “Around 500$ Dollars.” The shopkeeper said. “And how much for the dog?” Aron asked. “He’s for free if you’re willing to take care of him like family.” The shopkeeper said. Aron looked his mother on the eye and said. “I want him mom. He needs me. He needs us.” Aron said with puppy eyes. “Son, are you sure you want that dog? There are a lot more beautiful and healthy dogs in here we can buy. And our budget for a dog is 300$ Dollars. How can you pay 200$ for this poor dog?” Aron’s mother asked. “Then I’ll work. I can find jobs at our neighbor hood. I can babysit, I can mow lawns, I can do errands for our neighbors. And besides, we live in a big neighborhood so I can easily find a job.” Aron said adamantly. Jessica paused for a minute to think about his son’s statement. After a long while she said, “Fine we can keep the dog, but only if you promise you take care of him as I take care of you. And you’ll have to clean every crap he makes, ok.” “I promise.” Aron said with a big smile. “And you have to earn your 200$ Dollars.” Aron’s mother said. “Since when did you ever give me something I didn’t earn?” Aron said in a joking manner. “Ok then, its settled. Sir we’ll take the Askal please.
” “Ok then, if you just sign this form here and he’s officially yours. Oh and I advise you to take these pills for him. It cures the pain but it doesn’t cure his sickness.” The shopkeeper said. “Oh, and ofcourse you’ll have to give him a name.” The shopkeeper added. “Hmmmmmmmm…….. You do said he poops a lot right? Aron asked. “Yes he does.” The shopkeeper replied. “Then, I’ll name him…….. Foo Foo!” Aron said brightly. Everyone was silent. “Foo Foo? I think-“ Jessica stared at the shopkeeper sternly. Obviously he got the message. “I-I think it’s a great name! Haha!.” The shopkeeper made an awkward laugh. Now If you’ll just sign his name here and he’s yours forever! “Done.” Aron said. Aron took Foo Foo home and thought. Don’t worry buddy, I’ll take care of you. You and I are gonna have a lot of fun! Aron smiled then hugged Foo Foo.
