Chapter 6: I Lied

Mindy’s POV

I don’t really want to lie to Isabella but I have to do this. “Mr. Kim, can you deliver this to Isabella’s house. Please tell her to that I can’t go with her because I am sick.” I instructed Mr. Kim. “Oh, Miss Ahn are you sick?” Mr. Kim asked. “No no. I am not but I just can’t go with her today.” I explained. “But why would you lie to her?” Mr. Kim asked me again. I am really bad at lying but I need to do this, I can’t lose this chance. “I wouldn’t keep it for a long Mr. Kim. I just needed her to go to the showcase. I’ll tell her soon, don’t worry about it.” I denied.

Yeah! It is right. I am hiding something from my best friend. I am hiding from her something I don’t want her to know. I know that she really wanted this too but I can’t afford to lose this time from her. Ever since we became friends, I always became the second. I never experienced being first in anything. She is always first in our class and I am the second. She always won singing contest and I am the runner-up. Even if we wear the same clothes, it still suits her best. Why couldn’t I just overcome her even for once? I’m going to be an idol and she will not be. I know I am being rude and selfish but how about the days and attention that she had stolen from me ever since we became friends.

*FLASHBACK

My family and I attended a party for elites and when we arrived at the venue, I saw kids too about my age. They were well dressed and gorgeous. Way back then, I am really so afraid talking to people so I always ended up hiding at my mom’s back.

There is this kid that saw me hiding, and she suddenly grabbed my hand and I separated to my mom. I was scared and I thought that time she will bully me for hiding at my mom’s back. But I never expected her to talk to me so polite. “Anyeonghaseyo, I am Isabella Park. What is your name?” She asked me. “Uh-uh, Ahn Jung Kil. Na-nice meeting you I-isabella.” I answered her with a trembling voice. “Lol, why are you like that when you speak. You are funny.” She told me. “Myanhae, I just don’t talk too much.” I explained. “Haha. Well, if you will be my friend you need to talk a lot.” She informed me. “I could be your friend?” I ask her. “Of course, I find you funny when you talk, so I wanted us to be friends.” She answered back.

Starting from that day, we became friends. We attend school together, we eat together, we do assignments together, and we even sleep at each other’s house. Until the day when things started to change between us.

We were in eighth grade; I really wanted to win a singing contest in our school. I practiced every day and I don’t even have a chance to see Isabella. I sacrificed each day to miss her just to win the contest. But I never expected that she will also participate in the contest. We were both shocked. I never expected that things will turn to like this. I know from the start that if we join the contest together, she will definitely win. I don’t know how to feel that time. I felt anger, betrayal and lost. Why didn’t she tell me that she will join a contest, the worst is that is the same as mine.
