Together Forever

Chapter 2

"What just happened? He was just- and now. Jack what happened?!" Anya always knew how to ask a lot of questions at once. I could only look at her and wonder how I was supposed to tell her that I was a mythical being.

"Um... Anya it's kind of hard to explain so how about we pack up the rest of your stuff and head to my place. Okay?"

"No," she whispered so quietly I wasn't too sure that's what she said.

"What?"

"I said no," she repeated more loudly.

"Now Anya I have no time to argue with you so either you wait for Felix to come back and take you away or you can come with me. And if you dare fight back I will drag you to that car, I swear I will!" My voice rose louder the more I spoke.

"You wouldn't force me to do anything," she said. "I know you better than that."

"Then pack up your things," I snarled as I turned and left her room. I needed a few minutes to think so I headed back to the kitchen to get the food.

How am I supposed to tell the girl that I love that I am a magical creature that is like a genie. How do I tell her that I can do so much more than grant wishes and simple magic tricks? How am I supposed to tell her that Felix was sent here by her brother that she never even knew she had?

So many things were going through my head all at once. Anya has a brother called Peter that lived in another "dimension". He needs her because he believes that she has some sort of mystical power. He had sent one of his strongest guards to come and take her to Arith. Peter would do whatever it takes to get a hold of Anya.

What the heck am I supposed to do? She would never believe me. It would seem impossible to her that she would have a brother that is evil and wants to use her as some kind of weapon.

"Jack?" she was standing in arm's length looking at me like I was a wounded animal. "Are you okay? Need any help?"

"Uh...sure. We just need to finish packing food, then we can leave."

A few minutes passed, and we were already heading out the door. There's no elevator in her apartment building so we had to walk three flights of stairs to get to the main floor. We then headed outside to my car.

It's a long ride to my house since I live out in the country. I would glance at Anya now and then just to see if she was alright or not.

"So," she said. I looked at her curiously.

"So, what?" I asked.

"So how do you know what happened to my mom?"

"I know I promised I would tell you if you came with me but I'm just not sure you want to hear about it."

"You promised!" she accused.

"I know I did. And I have to keep that promise." That's the one thing I hate. When I say, 'I promise' I must keep it.

"Your mother was a great woman," I started. "She was so brave. My mother was with her when she died...I was too." I looked at her shamefully. She had a very confused look on her face. "We were facing a very powerful being. My mother and your mother are what we call in our world Demon Slayers. But this one that we thought was just a boy that grew in size, strength, and mind. We thought he was a demon. He isn't."

"What happened?" she asked when I didn't continue to speak.

"Your father had put you in their bedroom and locked me in there to watch over you. I heard a scream and thought it was my mother, so I ran from the room to find your mother crumpled on the floor. The life bleeding out of her. My mother shouted at your father to grab you and leave, she said she would follow soon after. Your father did as she said. As soon as he was gone your mother saw me. She motioned for me to come to her. I knew she was dying so I did. She gripped my hand tightly. Then she looked me straight in the eyes and said, 'I want you to take care of my girl. Do whatever it takes to keep her safe. I know you have something special about you and I want you to use that power to keep my little girl safe. Promise me,' she said with pain in her voice. I gripped her hand back and said, 'I promise.' I've kept that promise and I plan to keep that promise till I go to the grave."
