"Alright class, turn to page 207 in your textbooks" my social studies teacher announced.
"BRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNGGG"
Everyone jumped out of their seats and rushed towards the door as the lunch bell rang.
"NO WAIT, I HAVEN'T GIVEN YOU YOUR HOMEWORK FOR TONIGHT-" she called, but it didn't matter because the place emptied out before she could finish her sentence. I went to my locker and got out my lunch along with my song book (which is basically just a purple five star notebook with the words SONG BOOK plastered on the cover) and met up with Katie, Leah, and Keira at our normal lunch spot.
"Hey guys" I greeted. Keira nodded as a sign of acknowledgement as Leah patted the seat in between her and Katie. When I sat down at the table, Keira smirked at my notebook.
"What?" I asked but it came off as more of a whine which I hated. Leah noticed the book too and rolled her eyes while Katie smiled this devilish smile as she sprung into the story of how yesterday I had went around town looking for a place to perform, as if she was there beside me. I tuned out most of what she was saying along with Keira and Leah laughing, and opened my song book and wrote new song lyrics. I was fine until Leah said
"So, you think that you have a shot at performing at the red piano?"
"Well yeah. I have just as good of a shot as anyone does."
"Hun how many times do we have to tell you? You dream, dreams that are way to big for your short body." Katie chimed.
"What is that suppose to mean?!"
"Think about it. You performing? You can't even sing that well!" Keira laughed.
"How would you know whether or not I could sing if the last time I sang for YOU Keira, you walked away?!" I yelled as I slammed my fist on the table causing a scene, but I couldn't care less. I picked up my lunch and my notebook and ran away, constantly bumping into to people. I ran all the way to the band room. Everyday after lunch I would go to the band room so that I could get away from everyone and everything and play the piano. My songs. By the time I arrived at the door tears were starting to water up in my eyes. They've said stuff like that for too long and it was about time I put my foot down and say enough was enough. All I need now is the piano. I thought no one was inside the band room (like usual) until I opened the door and saw a tall dark haired boy sitting on a chair with an acoustic guitar on his lap. He was in the middle of singing a song but when he saw me, he stopped.
"Oh I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt anything. When I come here I'm usually the only one here. I'm so sorry" I kept rambling on as I started to shuffle backwards out of the room. I was about to close the door when the boy stopped me.
"No wait, it's ok! Come here, it's nice to have some company instead of singing to all these empty chairs and instruments."
Taken by surprise, I walked over and sat on a stool in front of him. He smiled at me and said
"I didn't know someone aside from me used the band room."
"Well, I guess that makes two clueless musicians" I joked and he laughed.
"True. So what do you do in here? What instrument do you play" he questioned motioning to the instruments on the shelves.
"I play the piano in here, but I can also play the guitar."
"Cool, I can only play the guitar and I learned how to play over the internet."
"How come I've never seen you in here before?"
"I only play in here during lunchtime, so from 12:00 - 12:30, then I leave and eat my lunch. So I'm guessing that you come here just after I leave" he chuckled.
"Yeah" I smiled. Before I could say anything else, he pulled his guitar closer to him and asked
"What's your favourite song?"
"Don't make me choose! But if I had to choose then- I guess it would have to be summertime sadness by Lana Del Rey." I laughed as he started to strum on his guitar the chords of the song. His voice sounded so angelic, I felt hypnotized by the sound of it. My god he's so beautiful. For the rest of the lunch period we sat there talking about music and he sang for me a few more times. We honestly didn't notice the time flying by until the bell rang. We both got up at the same time and he said "so that was fun. Can we do this again tomorrow?" while standing half way out the door with his guitar case slung over his shoulder.
"Yeah, I'd like that" I smiled as I gazed up at his brown eyes. He closed the door behind him and bid me goodbye. I stood in the center of the door frame watching him walk down the hall and disappear in the distance before I went off to class.
