chapter three: the roommate

A girl with medium length, straightened, red hair walks in. Her hair is blazing like a fire so it is obviously dyed and the more I look at her hair I see an undertone of midnight blue. She is tall in height and an average weight for her height. She has a nose piercing along with three ear piercings on each ear. Her black tank top allows for me to see her black and white rose tattoo on her left shoulder blade. She is absolutely stunning.

"Oh hey, you must be the new girl. I'm Abi, what's your name again? I forgot what the Luna said" she asks in a voice that is surprisingly bubbly to her appearance

"I'm Veronica but I prefer to be called Roni"

"Whoa, quite a southern accent you have where are you from" she smiles at me before going over and sitting on her bed

"I'm from Texas actually, my dad is the new pack doctor and I came here with him and my little brother, Ben."

"That's kind of sweet. Are you and your brother close?"

"Yeah, definitely. I actually mother him a lot since he's never really had a mother. Mom passed away during childbirth for him."

Her expression saddens as her voice becomes bitter towards the end "whoa, I'm sorry. My Dad passed away a few years ago actually so I kinda know how you feel a little bit. The main difference is you sound a lot closer to your mom. When my Dad died, I actually was relieved. He had always been really abusive to my mom and me and when Alpha found out he took care of my dad giving him the option of death or changing immediately. Well you obviously know which one he picked."

There is a small silence between us because I'm at a loss what to say. I could never imagine the kind of pain that she must have went through with physical abuse. My mother never would have laid a rough hand on me. The worse that's even happen to us was a swift spanking.

"How did your mother cope with his death? Since you already mentioned you were relieved"

"She hurt. She thought it was all his fault and I'm just glad it wasn't her mate or she might actually could have died from losing her mate. How about your Dad?"

"He was devastated. For the first few years of Ben being alive, Dad wouldn't look at him without feeling upset about Mom. They were never mates either but they had fallen in love. Mom was human and I think Ben was just too much for her. With my dad being a pack doctor he tried everything he could to save her and our last alpha had to command my dad to stop trying after she had been gone for ten minutes. Mom was the best thing that ever happened for my dad. She treated me very well and I couldn't have asked for a better mom."

Abi smiles at me and goes and sits next to me slightly leaning against me. "Well we have each other now if nothing else. Roommates means mandatory friends in my book."

I laugh, "how did I end up so lucky in this whole roommate situation to be paired with someone with so much in common with me?"

"Obviously by fate!" She says making us both laugh. "What kind of movies do you like? And music?"

"Oh uhm.. I like horror, comedy, and occasionally cheesy chickflicks and for music there really isn't a genre I don't like."

She gets all excited, "do you want to hear the band I'm in?"

"Well of course crank that music up" I can't help but laugh at her excitement as she runs across her side of the room to turn her bluetooth speaker on and start playing a rock/metal mix of music. She's the lead singer and the back up is a male with a rather deep voice. She is actually really good and I listen to the lyrics

I wanna get out of here and feel tonight
Tonight screaming, to fight feelings,
Everything's going okaay
Tonight
