                                                                       Prelude

The dining hall of the Inn was empty save for a middle aged couple. They sat enjoying their breakfast by the bar while I sat out in the sun room, the door and windows propped open. The summer breeze felt wonderful as it played with my brown, sun-kissed hair. I tilted my head back and shook out my hair with a content sigh. The sun was blissful as it caressed every inch of my sun-kissed skin.

"Here's your usual Miss Lucas," Alyssa, the server, sat down my huge blueberry muffin and coffee.

"Thank you Alyssa," I smiled kindly at the pale blond in front of me. She scurried away and left me to my own thoughts. I emptied two sugar packets and enough creamer to turn my coffee white. Picking at the muffin, I studied the back of the property from the glass room. My reflection was thrown back at me. I was a curvy yet skinny girl, sun-kissed skin, sun-kissed brown hair that fell in soft waves, plump pink lips, heart shaped face, and wide doe like eyes. Today those eyes were the same pale blue as the sky. They always changed with mood and weather. I was rather calm today and the weather was beautiful. When I say rather calm, I mean as calm as someone on the run can be. I was special, very special. The world's fate was on my shoulder's and I had to stay alive until I found my trainer. Who this person was or where they were I had no clue. I would know when I found that person though, I just knew it.

My highly sensitive ears picked up the sound of the Inn doors being pushed open and the bell being rung. No normal human would be able to hear what I heard. Then something sent my scalp prickling.

"I'm looking for Beau Lucas. Is she here?" A gruff voice asked. That's all it took for me to be out of my seat and through the glass door.  My rucksack was slung across my back as I ran across the large back yard to the forest beyond.

Twigs snap beneath my feet. A noise reverberates behind me. It's a sort of snorting noise, like a wolf or bear would make. It had just broken the forest line and I was already deep within. As my feet fly over the ground, I decide what I must do. My feet land on a fallen tree and I spring upward. I feel my bones shift and I soar higher, the noise below slowly ebbs to nothing. My wings slice through the air as I continue upward. I easily blend in with the other blue birds around me. Good luck trying to get me now!

You know how I said I was special? I'm the only person ever known that could change into whatever she desired. Everyone else was born with one spirit animal they could change in to. Me? Well I was born with no specific spirit animal, but with the spirit of all living creatures. I was the girl from the legends who would end evils rein of terror. When everyone found out, my life was no longer safe. The girl of legend was me, Beau Lucas (pronounced bow), daughter of light and I had just escaped death's hands again.
